I vaguely remember my first visit to the Castle Gardens only because I have a photo of friends there (and I last saw them in 1972). Even then it was a lovely place to sit or walk or run if you need the exercise! Nowadays the gardens are always beautiful, semi formal but welcoming for all who work or shop in Guildford. Lunchtime is best taken early when there's space available on the benches. I take my young son, he runs riot while I read. It's popular with parents pushing prams and their toddlers watching fish in the pond. The gardens are full of photo opportunities with splendid backdrops on every level as the footpath spirals up to the castle itself where you can be pictured with views of the area behind you. The castle itself is only the old keep but it's worth the couple of quid fee to enter and climb to see some of the best views in Surrey and as Surrey is the best county in England that's as good as it gets. I love the Castle Garden it's one of the things that make Guildford such a wonderful...

Beautifully maintained gardens with shaped ornamental flower beds, stunning tulip displays in April, and a historic Norman castle at the centre. There's plenty of seating to spend a few moments enjoying the surroundings. Other features include an attractive bandstand, war memorials and a striking statue of Alice Through The Looking Glass. There are various ruined walls around the grounds, and good signage. The castle itself (entry charged separately) is worth a look, with a small exhibition inside and great views from the top, but the gardens are the real highlight, and...

Very lively and well maintained grounds with a local pub and bowling club with8n the premises. We had a packed family picnic at these grounds on a sunny Sunday autumn. The small main castle building had been restored (was closed during our visit) and there are other ruins with the grounds. The place is very well maintained, grass and trees well cut and area is very clean. There was even live classical music being played in the open while we sat on the grass for...

Gorgeous views. Perfect for a pit stupor a detour to treat your eyes. The flowerbeds were well looked after, thriving even after the summer heat. Be mindful that it slopes and there are some steeper inclines; may be a slight struggle for those with buggies or mobility issues.
