Côte Guildford — Restaurant in Guildford

Been here a few times over the years and frankly it has always been a bit "meh" but tonight they really jumped the shark into terrible-ness.

The first insult was the calamari. It tasted of nothing but oil. We added plenty of salt to add some flavour - any flavour - but decided to move on thinking "it's just a starter".

First mistake.

Wary of the previous experiences of the place we ordered burgers. What could go wrong?

The vegan burger was covered in some rancid coconut oil based "cheese" which left a horrible layer of scum in the mouth, and the large meat burger tasted of nothing, absolutely nothing, apart from overpowering reblochon and oily onions. Not even salt could save this one.

Honestly, with the vegan burger, this is the first time in years I've genuinely found something inedible, that mouldy coconut flavour... it was foul.

(Just to note that we've had a thousand vegan burgers and they were all better than this nonsense, just in case you're thinking this is the view of pure meat eater).

The service. Ha! The service! What a joke. It's clear they hated their jobs and could not give a single ...care... that we happened to be in their restaurant causing them difficulties by daring to order. Food was slapped down on the table, "here you are", no one asked us how it was going, wine was delivered and splashed all over the plates and we saw the staff visibly arguing infront of everyone...

82 quid for a bland, tasteless starter, 2 below average, unseasoned burgers (one of which was inedible), a couple of average wines and 1 defrosted desert to cleanse the horrible, rancid, coconut taste. Oh, and some grumpy staff to complete the deal.

And yes, we told the server, so this isn't a cowardly "after the fact" review.

It was my partners birthday. We were made to feel so incredibly special. I took in a 🎂& 🎈at lunchtime andrey took them & said he would sort it. He let me pick a table. From that moment Nothing was too much trouble. I called tge restaurant and they answered & said everything is ready, don't worry, see you soon. We had the steak to share which melted in the mouth & my partner said the best steak he had ever had. The complimentary glass of prosecco was such a lovely touch & our waiter took some photos of us. 1 is so lovely we are having made into a canvas to hang on the wall. The experience your team created made memories that will last a lifetime. We have both been raving about how brilliant cote was to our friends and family. My partner had never been to a cote before and can't wait to go back. You have 2 cote customers for life!! We can't thank you enough for the effort that you put in to making us feel special. If we could give you 6 🌟 or 10 wece would!! To anyone deciding between cote and another restaurant please go to cote you won't be disappointed. You will find a little gem 💎 of a restaurant with an experienced team that are well trained and care about...

Me and my boyfriend had breakfast there. The service was absolutely awful to begin with, they barely greeted us and just pointed at a table from behind the bar and said "sit". Then, when taking our order, my partner ordered apple juice but they served him orange. When our breakfast was served, I noticed that my plate had avocado leftovers all over it. I asked for a new portion with a clean plate, and the waiter just sat right next to me very confused asking - where is it dirty? I can't see.

After about 5 mins they brought me a new plate, which was very very hot and the waiter had to hold it with tissue. He warned me to be careful, as the plate is hot, but never apologised for the plate. They brought me fresh cutlery as well, but as I was about to eat I noticed the new plate was dirty as well! It had sauce stains all over it. I couldn't be bothered anymore with the service there so I barely ate from my breakfast. The sauce also tasted very funny, I ordered Avocado eggs, and the sauce tasted as if it had went off.

The coffee was tasteless as well, absolutely awful service and food. Would never go...
