I was disappointed with my visit to Theion.
Firstly the food: It is a greek restaurant but not that much authentic greek food is on the menu. I had the aubergine for starter, which cost £10. It was bitter, tough and inedible. I returned the whole thing back to the waiter. For seconds, I had the hake which was ok but cost £19 for a piece of battered fish with a few strange toppings - breadcrumbs (even though it was already battered?) and capers and caviar. On the side the waiter put a green split sauce which looked like a muddy pond and tasted unpleasant. For £19 a piece of fish should be of excellent quality and delicious, but the flavours here were completely mismatched. I had half of the fish as I was hungry but moved the toppings and sauce to the side because I could not eat them.
I explained this to the manager who was very nice about the situation and apologised. He took the aubergine off the bill and gave us a complimentary dessert. I appreciated the gesture but again, the dessert was not to my taste.
The service: Improvement needed. We waited half an hour for our orders to be taken. The food then came out suspiciously quickly which suggests to me it is not freshly made. The waiter was slow to take back our plates and, even though he saw my uneaten aubergine, did not ask if anything was wrong with it. We were a big group but no one really interacted with us or asked if we enjoyed our food.
Overall, for a very pricy restaurant (£29 for half a piece of aubergine and one small piece of fish), I would expect the food to be amazing. However, it was inedible. I feel like my money was wasted and would not...
Read moreI had never really had proper Greek food until visiting Theion. I was surprised to find out how incredible it is! From the outside you would not expect to find the vast restaurant hidden inside. Its beautifully decorated and has a great feel to it. The staff were very friendly and helped with recommendations on the menu. The menu itself is not huge which from experience is only a good thing, to know it offers a smaller number of dishes usually means the quality of each dish is much better and I can say this is the case with Theion. We had 2 starters to share, along with pitta and olives for the table, We had the meatballs and chicken tacos both of which were so full of taste and served with great accompaniment's. For main we were stuck between the Moussaka and the Glazed Pork, after speaking with the staff we decided on the Moussaka to experience proper Greek food, and I must say it was the best decision. We both could not believe how much we loved it! it had such an amazing taste and was cooked to perfection. I decided to have the crème brulee for desert, it was slightly different to normal as it was had an orange flavour throughout and although normally I would not go for something like this I was pleasantly surprised! it had a crisp top and server with sugar based angel hair with a small amount of vanilla ice cream on top, it all went so well together and I was extremely satisfied after the meal. Overall an amazing experience with incredible food. Highly recommend and I cannot wait to...
Read moreFirst I should point out that my wife and I had a reasonably late table booked at 9.30pm at our own choice which may or may not, rightly or not, justify our experience The look and feel of the place is very nice with a very impressive dining area where you feel you could be anywhere but Guildford. All the food was great, the slight issue I had was the service and the menu choices. Our meal came to £120 which included 2 glasses of wine each. Our waiter took our order then we didn't see him again until it was time to see the dessert menu as someone else then served us. No one asked us if everything was OK at any point and it took 3 times of asking to get some ice for a drink. Our main courses were brought to us literally a second after we had finished the starters and before the starter plates and dishes had been taken away. Minor things but they kind of add up. The mixed dip starters were excellent as was the calamari. Unfortunately I found the overall menu a little limited for choice. This wasn't helped when I was told they had sold out of my main choice of pork souvlaki which I find hard to comprehend in a Greek restaurant. I therefore had to choose the lamb which was £8 more expensive and it was ok. Then on to desserts and, again, they had a choice of 4 and only 2 of them were available and not the one I may have had so we chose not to have one. Overall, the food and wine was very nice, the venue was great, but I just left feeling I hadn't really got what I went for or what I...
