This historic river port town set by the river Great Ouse is a gem of a place to visit. Wether you sit by the Quayside overlooking the river watching boats passing under an historic bridge with a chapel in the middle, you can take a boat trip from here or even walk around the town seeking out some very interesting buildings, antique shops, pubs and independent retailers and markets on Monday, Friday and Saturday, this town is often buzzing. There are a decent range of very nice restaurants to choose from too, some dating back to the 1600. A statue of Oliver Cromwell looks over the town where he once lived. Read moreThe medieval st ives Bridge was completed in 1425 and is one of only four surviving bridges in the country to have a chapel incorporated on it. On one side of the bridge, the Arches are round, and the other side, they are Gothic. This is due to the fact that Oliver Cromwell blew up part of the bridge during the English Civil War to stop King Charles l troops marching on London.
