I recently ordered from St Ives Dhaba as it had the best reviews. However, I'm beginning to question the authenticity of the reviews.
We ordered over the phone as the website isn't secure, meaning your password isn't securely stored when entered. You're also forced into creating an online account.
We were advised on the he phone it would be no longer than 1hr 15mins for delivery, longer than most establishments but given the reviews we thought it would be worth the wait. Food eventually arrived 1hr 45mins later after being told another order had come through near our address so they decided to hold ours and then send them together. My wife received and paid for the order not aware of what I'd been quoted on the phone, she paid about £5 more than what I'd been told.
The food was cold when we received it, so everything required reheating. My wife ordered a biryani which was very different to every other biriyani we've ever had, but I appreciate there are regional differences with dishes and the chefs that cook them, this one wasn't to our liking. The Pasanda we ordered smelled and tasted off, the yoghurt within it was curdled and sour. I assumed perhaps it was again a regional thing so had a few bites but couldn't get past the taste and knew something was off. I binned the rest of it, and it's definitely for the best as the toilet took a battering in the 12hrs that followed. Onion Bhaji was nice after we had reheated it, but sadly soggy and cold upon delivery. Peshwari naan lacked filling, could've easily been confused with a plain naan.
I would never order from here again, even if...
Read moreBEST INDIAN IN SAINT IVES! It's hard to know where to begin with how excellent our experience at Dhaba was. We spontaneously popped in one midweek evening and were blown away by the food and the service! We went straight back a week later! On the first visit we had the Kashmiri Lamb Shank which was tender and fell straight off the bone and the garlic chilli chicken which is my partners favourite - he said it was hands down the best he's had in Saint Ives, in fact Cambridgeshire! We also had the Saag Paneer, which was both creamy and "spinachy" (sometimes restaurants overdo one or the other) The garlic naan was so fresh and delicious and it was lovely to see actual fresh garlic on top of the bread. And here's the best bit...they actually have an amazing selection of home made Indian deserts. You won't get any shop bought frozen cheesecake here! I would highly recommend the coconut fob and the chocolate samosa...yes...CHOCOLATE SAMOSA! Insanely delicious and our waiter was keen to answer our questions about how they are traditionally made. On our second visit we had the naga chicken, traditionally a very hot curry but we could still taste all the depth of flavour. We also had the Lamb Tawa which had a great depth of flavour and came on a sizzler. The lamb samosa was delicious, it contained proper meaty lamb chunks rather than mince which was much tastier. I honestly can't fault the food or service. We're currently waiting on a...
Read moreAfter being a loyal customer of Dhaba since they opened, our experience last night felt like a slap round the face. We arrived at 7.40pm and at 9.15pm we still had no Starters, Curry or Rice. We explained on arrival that we had to get the 9.30pm Bus and asked “would we be OK for time” and were advised that it was “no problem at all” After politely asking how things were getting on, we were told twice “ It’s coming in 5 minutes” but nothing ever arrived. The third time we asked, we were responded to aggressively, telling us that we had “only ordered 20 minutes ago” when actually we had been waiting for over an hour. Plenty of time to keep trying to sell us drinks though (which we refused) Highly unusual and unfriendly service from Dhaba and we 100% won’t be returning. There is no need for aggressive behaviour towards customers EVER. We will return to Montaz full time moving forward. My advice to Dhaba is if they are to busy and are really behind on orders, just be honest with the customer and they can then make the choice to go elsewhere, rather than be...
