Attending the Fever Candlelight Concert for The Best of Hans Zimmer was a truly magical experience. Set in a beautifully lit church, the atmosphere was intimate and enchanting, with hundreds of flickering candles creating a mesmerising ambiance.
The string quartet, KS Collective, were simply fantastic. Their performance was flawless, bringing Zimmer’s iconic scores to life with incredible emotion and precision. A lovely touch was their inclusion of interesting facts about Zimmer throughout the concert, adding depth to the experience and making it even more engaging.
However, there are a couple of practical things to note. The church is a little draughty, so I’d recommend wearing something warm to stay comfortable. Also, the seating is quite close together, meaning you’ll likely be touching shoulders with the person next to you.
One thing I wouldn’t recommend is paying the £5 for the photo opportunity. Unfortunately, it’s just taken on a phone and doesn’t capture the beautiful candlelit background, making it feel quite underwhelming.
Overall, KS Collective played brilliantly, and I’ll definitely be looking out for more of their concerts in the future. If you’re a fan of Hans Zimmer’s work, this is a...
Read moreSt. Peter's is one of the most significant of the 12 medieval, Ipswich town centre churches, actually lending its name to the nearby St. Peter's Dock. It's waterfront location has turned out to be unfortunate because of the turning of the roads either side of its narrow churchyard into a traffic island between the bypass 1-way system. The red-brick wall at the eastern end of the churchyard is actually part of Wolsey's Gate, & once separated the church from the ecclesiastical College founded by the Cardinal. As with neighbouring St. Mary's, & St. Clement's, St. Peter's has become surrounded by queues of traffic, isolated on something of a no-mans-land, where there's little incentive to linger & admire it's architecture. It's very rare when you can appreciate the church for what it represents, due to the surrounding atmosphere of hustle & bustle. Sunday mornings are the only regular times that St. Peter's receives some peace. Nowadays it serves as an arts venue, & has a regular live music schedule, (alike St. Mary's, North Hill,...
Read moreSaw the Paul Simon Story at St Peter's. Excellent 5 piece band playing the career of Simon from early S&G up to the incredible Graceland. Great musicianship. The venue is a delight with the sinking sun shining thru the stained glass behind the band illuminating Jesus and the saints. We were able to sit and listen at civilised tables - nice at our age (!). Bar had very reasonably priced booze incl. Broadside & San Miguel. Round for 4 of us about £12 which was a bargain. Look forward to other concerts here. Acoustics very good - way better than the Corn Exchange which always makes the music...
