Poor experience - NO FREE PARKING AT CAFE we called here as we had some time free before needing to get back home. Reviews had said can park free at cafe then short walk from there. Car park is actually privately run, hefty fine for using it. Cafe was not open at 9.10 am, so we were not able to enter car reg in cafe and then stay for max 1 hour. No option to pay for an hours parking. Car parking bays much further down street were max1 hour disc holders only. On arriving Sat Nav takes you past the cafe further up the hill into private land where rental cottage is. Sign for cafe isn’t obvious till you are driving back down hill. Road not wide enough to turn around so had to reverse all way back down through gate down along the narrow road. Wanted to warn others to check if cafe is actually open before driving there and wasting your time. Also an hour is not really long enough if you want to walk around and sit and chill by the falls, presuming you have to make a purchase at the cafe in order to put your car reg in. You would really need to park in town and walk...

Beautiful walk! Plenty of opportunities for stunning pictures so bring your camera! Water is so clear😍! Its a nice walk, it is uphill but im not physically fit at all and i managed it ! Wasnt too difficult! Not a very long walk but enjoyable. The only thing that was negative was when we got to a beautiful shallow and flat area we smelt something awful. Thought it mightve been dog poo or something but as my partner looked to his side he saw a rotting dead carcass of a sheep lay beside him , decaying and covered in maggots.. thats for sure what smelt bad.. i mean obviously as much as it wasnt necessarily expected, we understand it is nature and so it isnt bizarre. However, considering its a marked out walk that many know about and is pointed put by tourist information centres, you'd think the council or some organisation would keep on top of looking after it as that mustve been there a while.. thats the only reason I didnt give...

This is a place you should visit whilst in the Lake District. You need to wear good footwear as the path is very uneven. The final steps to the top are very high and may not be suitable for someone who has mobility problems. You can make this a circular route but only if you can get to the top of the Force. There are a couple of seats near the top but these are damp and rotted. There are no toilets so go before you set off. Toilets are available near the start of the walk. Cost is 20p. A road to the right of the path takes you to an entrance near to the top. This path is fair and is only approx 300 metres long. A gate makes it accessible to a wheelchair user, or someone with mobility issues. There is no parking on the road unless you have a blue badge. You need to park your car in one of the car parks. If you fancy using one of the parking spaces, you will need a permit to do so. This only affords you one hour of...

We really enjoyed this place. We took a 7 and 5 year old who made it to the waterfall no problem. Advice is to go to one of the shops on the high street and get a parking pass, they are free and they allow you to park for an hour right by the entrance.... If you drive up past the Salutation Hotel and follow the road up and around to the right... You get to the entrance and the parking is on the road with the pass. Did us great. ***Safety tip*** if you're going with young children be careful... At the top the waterfall is all fenced off BUT there is a gap between the path and the fence on the left as you look at the waterfall... My 5 year old slipped down the gap and gave us a heart attack... Although he didn't fall down and I don't think he'd had fitted through the gap, watch out for it! :-)

The waterfalls and forest walk are truly beautiful and it was great to have somewhere shaded to walk with our dog on a very hot day. While it is not a long hike at all, the terrain is a little tricky with steep hills and rocky ground and some muddy / slippy parts. This might sound obvious being a waterfalls walk, but it's not easily accessibe for everybody. Having said that there are some rails to hold on to at times and quite a few well placed benches to stop and rest. With it being the school holidays it was very busy so if you can go in off-peak times I imagine with would be lovely and tranquil. There are lots of arrows to keep on the main path so you don't need any special maps etc.

nice little walk that you can start from ambleside town centre. it's a circular walk that starts from the road and brings you to the top of the falls that you can cross via a bridge. took roughly 40mins to do the full loop. I'd say the right side upon entering is definitely easier than the left (which had some slippery parts and steep bits), but all fine if you've got appropriate footwear. there's also an exit that leads to a cafe nearby towards the top of the trail indicated by a sign near the picnic bench. so you could keep to the right side of the trail and exit at the top should you prefer something more relaxing!
