I came in for a meal with my partner and service was generally awful and his burger was burnt, they also took our starter before we had finished eating. For the prices you’re paying the food is quite bad. We asked for our food to come all together and it didn’t, I asked for the vegan options but was given dairy in my starter so when the main arrived I wanted to check with the sever, which I assume manager (as he was in a blue Hawaiian shirt) that the lasagna I ordered had vegan cheese. He then proceeded to be very patronising back to me stating that I ordered something vegan so it would be vegan and then left to go to the kitchen but shouted loud enough for us both to hear him (as we were sat directly opposite the kitchen) complaining about our table and acting as if we were stupid. This made me feel angry as my partner and I both work in a touristy pub ourselves and this kind of service and behaviour especially from a manager is unacceptable. It makes me angry as I know how difficult customers can be we both always make the effort to be friendly and polite to the staff, but we were treated unreasonably. I wanted to complain but the servers continued to dodge our table even with dirty plates on it, but that seemed to be a general theme of the pub, as there were dirty plates everywhere and it wasn’t busy. I also saw another member of staff drop half the plate of chips he was carrying to a table and proceed to do nothing about it. The whole experience put me off of my meal, though it didn’t seem that appetising anyway. The vibe overall seemed unwelcoming and unpleasant, I got the general impression that nobody really cared. It’s safe to say I wouldn’t be visiting again, and it seems there are plenty of other nicer places to eat out in Ambleside.

Stopped at The White Lion Hotel in Ambleside for lunch whilst visiting the town. Specifically wanted somewhere with outside seating due to us having our dog with us. Ordered drinks at the bar and then my partner ordered food from the menu available. My partner opted for the fish goujons sandwich and I opted for the ham and cheese melt sandwich. The first issue was when the waiter approached our table approximately 15 minutes after ordering to advise that they had run out of tartar sauce for the fish and would mayonnaise suffice. We were happy with that. After a further 10 minutes, he appeared again to say that they only had one piece of focaccia bread left and would plain white bread be okay for the ham and cheese melt sandwich. We agreed to this because we were keen to get the food. The order finally arrived after a further 10 minutes and what was put down was poor to say the least. Photos below of the food. The fish was not goujons, they were standard fish fingers. The ham and cheese melt was poor. The cheese was clearly some form of processed cheese slice which had been melted. The bread wasn’t buttered in either sandwich and the overall presentation was poor. Either the chef was off sick or they were having a bad day! Not the standard of pub food you would expect to find in a hotel based in a popular tourist location. We will certainly not be eating here again, considering the large number of other eating places with outdoor seating in Ambleside.

Ember Inns supposedly only allow guide and assistance dogs inside. Unfortunately, this pub allows them inside. And when we sat outside, there was one initially, well away from us... but soon, there were four, and we had to finish our pints on the street. As my husband is asthmatic and sensitive to dogs, being indoors with them, or outdoors woth them nearby, could easily trigger a potentially fatal asthma attack. Not that most dog owners, nor the managers of most pubs, care about that. It seems we can only safely go out to Wetherspoons, Harvester, Toby, and a tiny number of non chain pubs. And this pubs dog policy goes against that on the national Ember Inns Website. Our local one in SE London does NOT allow non guide dogs inside. Even to the bar with the owners, to order drinks. Given that animals in food preparation areas are not allowed, and eating establishments will get marked down for this, it is also astonishing that they are allowed in public eating areas. Having seen dogs sitting with their bums on tables, unchallenged by staff who are often too busy to notice, I'm sure we aren't the only people who will never eat in such filthy establishments.

Three of us, from this very industry decided we wanted to eat here last night and thanks to the useless waitress with a very big attitude problem we will never entertain these four walls again.

We had preplanned our meals, we weren't planning on having 1 plate each, we were planning on getting alot to make our own banquet and have a good time pigging out. So we got ourselves onto a table that would fit enough food for more people as we planned to fill it.

Getting up to the bar, your vile female member of staff approached us and asked us to move onto a smaller table with a disgusting tone, we responded that we are going to order alot more food than they think, she shut us down with bad attitude and said we are taking business opportunity off them by sitting on a table with more seats than we need....

Side note: it was near empty in there and if you want to check your cameras for the night, that table we were kicked from, didn't get used at all for the rest of the night.

One of us already wanted to leave with the bad attitude she gave when we tried explaining we need a bigger table but we carried on with our plan in hope that when she sees how much food we are ordering we can have a bigger table...

As we sat on a table that had no hope of fitting our planned order on, we thought we would mention once again but this time actually show how big the order is going to be... Well this rancid woman continued with her attitude and then walked off tutting at us. This was the end of the line and I made her very well aware she is a vile little human who should seek a job with no customers or even better the job centre to accept the minimal benefits her personality is worth. She does not deserve a job in an industry I pride myself in. She is vile, disgusting and a disgrace to...

Poor experience! We ordered food & drink via the app. 20 minutes passed and we hadn't received our drinks, I went to the bar to ask about them & was informed that they didn't have the tropical drink we'd ordered (despite it being available on the app). I went for an alternate drink of lemonade which was cheaper but was not refunded the difference.

Food eventually arrived but was taken around the restaurant at least twice as the server didn't know the table numbers.

My partner ordered a chicken burger without salsa but it was served with it on the burger - due to it being 30 mins since ordering he didnt it send it back as we were very hungry! My chicken tika curry arrived with chillies in which made it far too spicy the rice had far too much coriander so tasted soapy, the chicken was full of gristle, curry was watery & it was luke warm not hot. Again with how long it'd taken to serve I didn't send it back.

There was no way of asking for it without naan bread (I'm gluten intolerant so can't eat it). Thankfully not coeliac so it wasn't too much of an issue that it was placed ontop of the poppadoms and contaminated them.

Noone came over to ask how our meal was & no apology was offered for the drink not being available or for the delay in food. I appreciate that there was a shortage of staff however the pub wasn't that busy and service should have been better. What a waste of money as I couldn't eat my food & had to find elsewhere to order a meal a...
