We stopped here on a Saturday evening and had very rude service from one of the waitresses.
Upon arrival we made a mistake and went to walk straight onto the terrace. The pizza chef explained we needed to go inside to be seated, which we apologised for and did as he said.
Once in, the rude waitress told us they weren't serving anymore. We arrived at 19:48 (I checked the timestamp on my photos) and the restaurant states they shut at 21:00.
We went to leave, but decided to double check if we could just have a drink on the terrace. We went back in and spoke to another waitress who was a lot friendly who said of course, and we could also have cake if we wanted.
We declined the cake and just asked for drinks.
Another table full of people had also just been seated on the next table to us. They all ordered food. We therefore asked the friendly waitress again if there was any chance of just 1 pizza to share, but were told this wouldn't be possible as they had run out of dough.
We therefore just stayed an had a couple of drinks.
Around 20:30 we noticed a marked increase in the volume of the music inside the restaurant and noticed the staff beginning to clear down and close up. The friendly waitress came over to ask if we wanted any last orders, and jokingly apologised about the music saying some of the other staff were happy it was closing time and so wanted the louder music whilst they closed up.
We weren't really bothered about the music, but did think it interesting that it was more about the staff than the customers at this point, despite the restaurant still being open for another 30 minutes.
We were the last people left around 20:45, so finished up our drinks, went into pay, and as we left we spotted the pizza chef taking a pizza out of the oven. So it seems they had run out of pizzas for the customers, but not the staff.
This restaurant is ideally situated with stunning views. I'd recommend coming here to see that. And it's obvious from other reviews that this place is well loved and does excellent food. Just ensure you book before going, especially for a Saturday evening. And also hope that you don't get the rude waitress, she wasn't pleasant at all.
We are happy we popped in for a drink and to see the views, but we wouldn't go back due to the way we...
Read moreCame here several times between 9.40 and 10.30, delighted there was no music, just nice and quiet. Came a few times more with a friend who struggles with loud music in cafes (peretty much everywhere), we really enjoyed it and thought we'd make it our new regular brunch spot. We always left when the music came on seemed to be around 11am. But our last visit and the staff rudeness has put us off. We came earlier than usual.about 9am, disappointed to jear awful clashy live rick recording music. Had lovely coffee and gritted our teeth. We were going to have brunch but were rapidly rethinking it. There was one other elderly couple in the cafe and some people outside. I asked a young lady waitress if they could turn the music down as it was really grating on us and was quite loud. Her response: well its quiet already. I told her that we have been on previous occassions for morning coffee and that there had been no music until 11am, and that is why we come here, she basically called me a liar saying: we always have music on in the morning. (Actually no you don't, we've not imagied it). When I said it wasnt quiet for us, and that the crashing and sceeching of the chosen music was giving us headaches, her reponse: well i can change the track. She did, and it was louder than the previous music. We decided to go somewhere else for brunch and haven't been back since. We were shocked by the complete lack of knowledge and understanding of neurodiveristy, and the general fact that not everyone likes loud music in social environment. It was clear that the music was on for staff benefit and the staff couldn't care less about the...
Read moreWe stopped by this café after a long walk and while the food was so good—especially the side salad, hashbrown bites and sweet potato fries—the prices were a bit shocking. Nearly £20 for a chicken burger felt pretty steep, even in the Lakes!
That said, portion sizes were decent and the quality of the food did help justify the price somewhat. We also really appreciated the free self-serve tap water—such a great touch for a place near walking trails when you’re parched after a hike.
It would have been nice to see some lighter options on the menu like sandwiches or toasties, as most people popping in around lunchtime—especially before or after a hike—are probably after something smaller than a full £20 meal. We noticed the eggs and avocado on toast being served to the table next to us, and the portion looked quite small for the price, so we decided not to go for that in the end.
Offering free blankets to borrow is a lovely addition too, especially with the outdoor seating—perfect if it gets a bit windy or chilly.
There was a small mistake with our order, but it was resolved quickly and efficiently, which we really appreciated. If you don’t mind splashing out a lot, the food is definitely...
