A pleasant park to walk in on a lunch break or when shopping. It's small but it feels a world away from Bromley. Quiet, green and secluded. You'll often bump into Council office workers or the occasional wedding, but otherwise you'll often have the place to yourself. It's not well signposted but you can access the park two ways. First from Rochester Avenue you can cross the car park and find a path near the old portacabin. This path leads you past St Blaise Well and the Grotto and curves around towards the Palace gardens. It's not obvious but you can keep walking along the path, winding between the buildings until you exit back almost where you started. This is the other entrance. The other entrance is harder to describe. You can reach it from Rochester Avenue by turning right instead of going to the car park. You can also enter from Stockwell Close (off Kentish Way) and walk under the council buildings, and take a right turn when you see the palace. Follow the winding paths until you reach the Palace gardens, and across them you can find the back path to the car park. It's all made a bit more confusing right now because the third entrance/exit (from Rafford Way) is blocked off for building works right now. Park is open "during office hours", which basically means you can get to it during day time - and seems to include weekends. It's mostly unlit so you probably wouldn't want to go after dark anyway!

Small public park, the remnant former gardens of the Bishop of Rochester’s Palace, lately massively improved and enhanced by informed intervention mostly driven by volunteers: an ongoing labour of love. Tucked behind a nondescript deserted municipal car park find this rehabilitated park with a fascinating backstory, a large pond, Ha-Ha remnant, Ice house , a mystical ancient well setting, unearthed C19 Pulhamite rock cascades, a pleasant lawn, deserted Bishop’s Palace and an impressive variety of scattered veteran trees.* Atmospheric mini delight delivers maxi payback. * including a rare Empress Tree and a colossal Copper Beech.

Secluded park I never knew was here for years. Not very big but usually very quiet. Several picnic tables under the trees.

I’ve visited this park more in 8 weeks, than any time in the previous four years. It no longer feels forbidden to enter, or off the beaten track (ie an awkward walk through the civic centre car park). A real hidden little gem. The sudden appearance of large black ‘welcome’ signs – from out-of-nowhere- piqued my interest, as did the extensive work by volunteers, always there… continually cutting back, maintaining and manicuring the trees/paths. Now that information boards about the fascinating history of Bromley Palace are appearing, it’s been totally rejuvenated, and brilliantly restored. Had a lovely conversation with Dawn, who explained how the team have done all this in only four months. Truly outstanding! Well done on all your hard work,...
