Indian Mehfil — Restaurant in London

Not sure how this restaurant has scored so highly! Another example, for me, of the poor state of affairs regarding south Asian restaurants in the Barnet/Southgate area. For example, the chicken tikka we ordered seemed to have been pre-cooked and then heated. No suggestion at all that a tandoor, or even a grill, was used. The absence of that important smoky, slightly charred aspect to the meat, evident. As for that spicey taste we all crave, better off cooking for myself! Disappointing but not surprising, given my experience of this area for decent south Asian food. Two stars, because we were hungry and it filled that gap and because ordering online was easy. First time at this newly opened restaurant in Southgate N14: very impressed and highly recommended. This is a genuine, unbiased review. Two of us had Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi, Chicken Pasanda (plus pilau rice and a garlic nan) which both tasted excellent. Service was attentive. Ambiance pleasant. Clean. Importantly food is not oily. Inexpensive with house specials mains around the £8 mark. Will go again as well as take away. I love Indian food and I am hard to impress and I was impressed. If the quality remains consistent, this is definitely my go-to Indian in this area. Currently does not have an alcohol license but you are welcome to bring your own...

No taste, not Indian. Went for my birthday meal with my three children and my daughter's partner. Service was okay and the restaurant looked really nice but the food was tasteless. I mean even the tandoori didn't taste of anything really. All agreed and not one person said they thought the food was nice. Was worried when I ordered the prawn puree (which I always order at an Indian) and it was as spicy as a bowl of Weetabix. Not sure if Bangladeshi food is supposed to not taste of anything but I for five won't eat there again. Had to write this post just to warn others. One redeeming feature they don't sell alcohol and don't charge corkage...
