Overall, good service and generally tasty food, but with basic, limited options which were slightly bland. More attention to detail in terms of the decor of the restaurant, cleanliness, and presentation of the food could make this restaurant a lot more charming and less forgettable.
Service: We visited as a family, and immediate impressions weren't great as there was half a lemon on the floor under our table. Our waiter was friendly and generally attentive, although walked away whilst we were paying and left us waiting.
Food: We were given on the house carrots and pickled peppers, which was a slightly strange combo, although a nice thought. Limited options on the main meals menu, but a good selection of meze options. The meat was flavourful and tender, and the pitta was well cooked and seasoned too which was nice. My meal also came with potatoes, which were plain boiled and a bit bland, with a huge pile of garlic mayonnaise. Although nice, it wasn't presented very well on the plate and could've been put in a separate manikin just for a nicer finish. Portion sizes were adequate and I left feeling full. We also ordered the rose lemonade, which was incredibly sweet and it contained added sugar - I think less sugar in it would've made it healthier and also a lot nicer.
Value: good value for money, and we were given some pastries on the house to finish (although there were nut shells left in a few of them), which was a nice touch.
Would visit again for casual occasions, but less suited for anything more formal than a...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusted by their service!
Been ordering with them for years and normally if there is a problem they would try and sort it out. Last week, ordered food and my wife unfortunately found a stone in her bakalva.
Before I continue I must hasten to add that we had finished our meal, so when calling I was expecting to explain our find and have an apology or a new portion of bakalva sent. I did not expect nor would've accepted a full refund on the meal as there was no problem with that.
The gentleman (although he is anything far from that) had already decided that I wanted a full refund or I was 'trying my luck' and proceeded to tell me that it wasn't their problem and I should call the people that they buy their pastries from (considering it was now about 930pm)! I told him that doesn't help us in the moment and he then told me 'so what, I will not help you!'
I told him he has lost a loyal customer and anybody I may have recommended them to in past. He never responded and put the phone down.
To say my wife and I are shocked it an understatement. They know us and how often we order because our address is known to them. Such a shame that they don't value customers.
I hope somebody from there reads this.
If you buy from them, especially take-away, check your food thoroughly and be prepared for Southgate's worst...
Read moreRelates to an order made a while back, but. I feel people should know how bad this place is. Ordered take away and took 2 hours to come despite phoning up and politely enquiring where food was (and am not too far from restaurant) . Food delivered by a kid who was being driven by his dad.
First off food was not fresh and cold - starters were awful - falafel tasted like sponge and had texture of soft bread, chicken kebab was tough, hardly any rice rice and no potatoes whatsoever. Hoummous was evidently shop bought. Halloumi tough and overcooked. Pitta bread was also shop bought and in the original packaging...
Lastly, they didn't have desert I wanted so had substituted it but without telling me - and the cake provided instead was tiny and to top it all off - stale!
This restaurant is expensive so the terrible quality of food is all the more surprising.
No apology or goodwill gesture offered. In conclusion, steer clear - worst Lebanese I've had by far - I've genuinely seen better quality from...
