Visited the Hackney Empire to watch Romeo and Juliet. I haven’t been to this theatre in over 9 years. The venue was clean, the seat itself was comfortable, however they were very cramped. The chair in-front was digging into my knees, and the seats were quite high off the floor, my feet were not able to touch the ground. The lighting was impressive and was not too much. The music was great, I was seating in the upper circle on the left and it was quite hard to make out what the actors were saying as it was not that clear. The toilets were clean and they had quite a few available so you didn’t have to wait in a line to use the toilet. You cannot bring snacks or drinks into the theatre but they do have a place inside where you can buy snacks and drinks. So that rule doesn’t make too much sense, as security check your bags anyways. The security downstairs were lovely, we had a nice chat while they were checking our bags and scanning our tickets. It was easy to collect our ticket from the ticket box. The performances were passionate and heartfelt, and the staging brought a fresh, modern twist to the classic. Even though I could not really understand what they were saying as they were using old English. The only reason I knew what was going on was because I’ve watched and read Romeo and Juliet a million times. The set design was creative, and the actors really captured the emotion of the story. 5 minutes from the end the sound went, and we had a little intermission for it to be fixed. But the actors were very professional they did not break character and they kept going until there were told to stop. When they kept going however they were still able to project their voices.

My recent visit for Unfiltered by Samay Raina was a mixed experience, largely due to comfort and logistical issues. The air conditioning was terrible, leaving the venue unpleasantly warm throughout the performance. Adding to the discomfort was the cramped seating. The lack of space between rows meant that anyone needing to leave their seat, even for a quick restroom break, disturbed multiple people and significantly hampered the overall experience. Furthermore, the phone policy created an unnecessary hurdle. While I understand the need to protect artistic material by using Yondr cases, we were not informed that these cases couldn't be opened, even at the bar, for payment. In an age where most payments are contactless via phone, this meant we couldn't buy drinks as we hadn't been advised to carry physical cards. Clearer communication on this front is essential. For a truly enjoyable evening, this venue needs to address its air conditioning, seating arrangements, and payment accessibility issues.

Went to see King today sat in the Upper Circle (F9 and F10) would book these seats again. Also had a bar and toilets nearby . Seat location was brilliant could see everything. The theatre was of good maintenance. The production of King was absolute perfection was inspirational and emotional with a bit of humour thrown in. The cast were fantastic. Their voices were powerful and strong the message was well understood. šŸ‘To the choir and orchestra. Loved every minute of it. My only regret was being too late to buy a program which went like hot cakes. šŸ¤— to the director and production team. I hope this goes nationwide as it's a must see by ALL Thank you šŸ‘ŒšŸ„‚šŸ¾

Great show at the Hackney Empire. Went to see Cinderella and although i was veryYYY disappointed by Cinderellas dress for the ball...i mean come on man it...i don't want to give away what her dress looked like but it had no shimmer no shine and i mean its Cinderella!!! she was meant to be wow!!! but at the ball she was just mehhhh. Very pretty girl with very lovely hair...but not even her hair was done up for the ball! to me that was disappointing! on a better note the show was lovely and i especially loved that the kids enjoyed it!!! even an 18 month old will be fixated eyes on the stage for the entire show. It was a lovely show and there were lots of laughs and lovable characters. The staff at the hackney empire are quite friendly. They exceeded my expectations always ready with a smile and very helpful. The theater its self was lovely, we were the furthest you could ever be from the stage and we were really high up and we could see everything. Building is big and there are restrooms for use. There is also a cloakroom if you want to get more comfortable and go in without your coat on. You could also leave your buggy in there if you come with younger children. You won't be able to go up to the show with the buggy as there are lots of stairs to climb and if you are sitting at the top there will not be a lift that goes all the way up there and there really isn't a place to put your buggy once you are in there. All in all it was a lovely experience at the hackney empire. They sell those light up wands for the kids for about £6 pounds and they absolutely loved them!!! Oh and there is a bar...they sell the nicest cider there and because it was Christmas they also had mulled wine. Sure you could find other good stuff there too. Great show, great employees great atmosphere...will definitely be...

I visited Hackney Empire to watch a pantomime, I was spoken to in a very rude manner . I had been over charged and have not been reimbursed and adding insult to injury I couldn't see the pantomime. Upon speaking to an old woman holding a walkie talkie (she was staff) about the issue during half time, I was ignored!!

At the end of the show I spoke to a unprofessional, Inept white haired Caucasian old woman about my experience, her response was 'okay it wont happen again' This woman did not like the way I looked and from the very beginning of the conversation gave me disapproving looks. She then just stood quietly staring at me. There was no smile on her face, nothing that correlated to a sincere apology.

I believe in Karma old white haired woman and now I am smiling! anyway back to the review.

I had been to the theatre prior to this and had not experienced such bad manners. I have watched 'Cats and Les Miserables' and have been treated with respect and professionalism.

The staff at this theatre does not care about how they come across and as a result it is suffering fiscally. I am not surprised!!!.

Upon complaining in writing the response I received was 'the management has made a decision and that's that".. I'm sorry Hackney Empire management, say what???? the decision to be dismissive and unprofessional..wow!!! If you're anything other than Black or Caucasian then prepare to be treated like debris!! Avoid this place and spend your money where you will be treated...
