What can I say, my husband and I were shocked by how bad this was, we got this afternoon tea as a gift from my mum and dad for Christmas. We got there the guy at the reception was nice, we got seated and it took quite a long time for the plates next to us to be cleared which wasn't great , champagne was nice. But then the cake stand came, 6 tiny finger sandwiches, which were a bit stale, poorly presented and not even nicely trimmed wonky which large pieces of crust still attached. Bread was also poor quality it was like value brand supermarket bread. The fillings were bland, and the ham was the cheapest ham value brand again? I think tesco must get a lot of custom from these guys! The scones also were tough and chewy not buttery and melt in the mouth, by the shape I knew it must have been good old tesco again, don't get me wrong I will eat tesco scones, but I'd rather just stay at home for that not pay a premium! The tea was twinings teabag, again ok if you are at home. The two tarts we got were disgusting the chocolate tart tastes like poorest quality chocolate the pastry was soggy and the passion fruit was too sweet and again soggy, I think they were probably defrosted from frozen as the chocolate was so hard. To top it off we then got asked to pay a service charge as we left, WHAT CHEEK, service charge is meant to be discretionary and how can we pay when this was a gift? That makes no sense. What a Con! If you see this as a voucher steer well clear, it's a complete con! You can get a great afternoon tea at Charlotte street hotel for around the same price, and it's 10x better! Go there instead....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been to Vertigo a few times now and one thing I dislike the most is how they deal with voucher payments. In more than one instance the staff (particularly the manager in duty) is very indiscreet towards redeeming your voucher (both at the beginning and at the end of your consumption) which isnāt the most pleasant experience if youāre there with a guest or companion. Left aside the fact that the discretionary service charge is dashed at you as if you must pay it the way AGAIN they emphasise your voucher payment. A very āupfrontā service which seems like youāre custom there is not taken seriously.
Having had this terrible experience in the past I decided to redeem my vouchers over the phone so that I get avoid this horrendous customer service experience. Indeed, I was reassured that the vouchers were redeemed. However it resulted to be the opposite due to internal miscommunication. Rather a truly, embarrassing moment as I voucher payments were stretched and repated throughout.
Iām sharing this because I know how many other customers may feel and believe me if youāre planning to surprise a guest by taking them there, you are likely going to experience this. Be mindful and make a better search on your vouchers...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGenuinely shocked at how many good reviews this place has.. was I in a different building cos the experience I had was very different to previous reviewers! We went on Wednesday for afternoon tea. They walked us past all the normal little sections with proper chairs to a window with a little foot stall to sit on. Then they brought our champagne out and I said to the waitress please can we sit on normal chairs with backs on and not a stall.. she said she'd move us but she never returned. About 15 minutes later another waitress brought our food out and when I said to her we're supposed to be getting moved it looked like a huge inconvenience to her. There was plenty of empty sections but no-one had cleared them away so she brought us over to a dirty table. The whole time in there aswell it was BOILING. To each side of me ladies were fanning themselves with menus it was uncomfortably hot in there we couldn't wait to leave soon as we'd finished eating. Much bettter places to go for afternoon tea. You go for a view and the windows aren't even clean so you get flashback in all...
