🚇Monument 🍺 £4.89 Carlsberg ❤️ A magnificent City Wetherspoons pub. . The Crosse Keys is located in the heart of The City of London just opposite glorious Leadenhall Market. The nearest tube is Monument, Bank station is also close by. . This grand Wetherspoon’s pub opened in June 1999 in a former Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank. Designed by W Campbell Jones, this Grade II-listed building opened in 1913 and featured the largest banking floor in the City at the time. This pub takes its name from The original Crosse Keys pub that stood on this site, the pub was destroyed in 1666 in the great fire of London then rebuilt and burned down again in 1734. . The interior of this pub is as grand a place that you’ll ever drink a pint in. Wetherspoons retained much of the original opulent interior, including marble pillars and fireplaces and a magnificent glass dome above the stairwell. Other standout features are the light fixtures and the beautiful curved servery at the far end of the bar. . Like the pub, the beer choice here is vast. There are multiple cask ales, a few craft beers and a host of familiar favourites. I took it easy and ordered a Carlsberg, my pint was well kept and cost just under a fiver. There is the usual extensive food menu available, Fish & Chips costs £10.60. . I arrived at 4pm on a Saturday afternoon and the pub was absolutely packed. I was lucky enough to find a seat near the entrance to take stock of this behemoth of a boozer. There are no TV’s or soundtrack, so all you could hear was a wall of sound of conversations that carried across this impressive setting. . You can say what you want about Wetherspoons pubs but the do create some wonderful boozers in stunning locations. . ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 08.04.23 More London Pub info @londonpubmap 🍻

We stayed at the hotel next door (check out my review of CQ Hotel if you're looking for a good value hotel) and rather than pay for a breakfast there, we decided to go to The Crosse Keys instead. They serve breakfast daily until 11.30am. It's a large building with lots of space, plenty of tables and a central bar area at the back of the premises. It was very clean & the staff were friendly. The lady who served us was wearing a body worn video (BWV), because like many other places, they'd experienced a number of spikings. So the introduction of BWV is designed to help stop this from happening, so I think this is a good move and Weatherspoons should be applauded for this 👏. We arrived late morning and ordered a porridge, two traditional breakfasts at £4.95 each and one large breakfast at £6.95. Each extra item was 65p. So not bad value at all as all came with a hot drink with free refills. The food arrived promptly, was piping hot and was exactly what we'd ordered. Condiments were available from a central area and the hot drinks dispenser the same. A convenient stop for breakfast. Both Embankment & Bank underground stations are both easily reached inside 5 minutes on foot with the Monument landmark & sky garden also nearby, and the River Thames and the Thames Path about 10 minutes.

MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF THIS PUB WAS NOT GREAT THANKS TO THE SECURITY. did not enjoy my time here...not coming back... The only pros were the bar staff, they were nice and quick service. And the pub has a nice interior. I got to the pub at 10.15pm as a pre drink location with a friend. there is SECURITY staff - 1 outside and 2 inside. My friend arrived at 10.30pm. She rang me that she was REFUSED ENTRY by the security staff stationed outside. I asked the security staff to let her in as I have bought drinks for her. His SOLUTION for me was to either down it or find a plastic bottle/cups to take with me outside... 2 other people came to grab their belongings the security staff did not let them in either... my friend and 2 people were refused entry (and potentially myself aha). After some RAISED VOICES and PUSHING. Another security staff inside saw the commotion outside, he finally let us in. I ordered 2 cocktail pitchers and a bowl of chips for me and my friend. The chips were meh. My friend and I quickly downed the pitchers (woo woo & S on the Beach) only for it to taste like JUICE... The same security staff outside came in and was ON OUR BACKS TO FINISH OUR DRINKS EVERY 2 MINS...

Another Wetherspoons I've been to previously but haven't reviewed. A large branch inside a former Banking Hall, situated in the City of London. The Crosse Keys has long being regarded as the flagship branch in Central London. It is situated not too far from Bank Underground Station, Liverpool Street Station and a walk across the River from London Bridge area. The pub was fairly busy when I visited. Surprising considering it is in the usually 'dead' area of the City of London, at the weekend. On this occasion I ordered a pint of Vale Black Beauty Porter and a Ham & Mushroom Pizza. Total cost was £12.85, which is a bit more expensive than most Spoons outside London, however isn't bad for Zone 1 London. The pint arrived within five minutes and no complaints about beer quality. Pizza arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. Was piping hot and again, no complaints with quality, or presentation. Worth a visit if in the area, even if to only stop for a pint and admire the architecture. Although the only thing I'm not overly keen on is the 'fishing nets' on the ceiling. Which were put up at a safety measure after the pub was closed for many months for a refurbishment.

I have been put off of Weatherspoons since their highly disappointing advocacy of Brexit, which in itself has reduced opportunities for young people and caused massive problems for businesses and in particular the hospitality sector - not the they will ever admit it. However, for The Crosse Keys, I am prepared to make an exception. It offers probably the best value breakfast in The City, where you can dine in a pleasant environment and catch up on some early morning work on the laptop without feeling pressured. I have invariably found the staff to be courteous, diligent, and welcoming. This venue is well with a visit for the setting alone, but unfortunately, unlike their food, Brexit still sticks in my throat.

Large Wetherspoons on Gracechurch Street in a grand former banking hall. Once a place where money was counted; now a place where pints are drunk. The cycle of commerce and debt remains ruthless. The bar here is interesting; it’s a circle in the middle. Around the circle, tables sprawl. The toilets are downstairs, in the former vaults. The beer was Coors and there were several gaming machines; well spaced. £40 win on Fishing Frenzy. You like to see it. So much better than the awful Liberty Bounds. Opposite the pretty Leadenhall Market, which people like to take pictures of.
