Statue of General James Wolfe — Attraction in London

The statue commemorates General Wolfe's victory over the French in a battle at Queue. It apparently has damage from WW2. Opened in June 1930.

The viewpoint directly in front of the statue doesn't seem to have its own location on Google Maps, so including that commentary here. Construction on redeveloping this area finished within the last year. From this point you get to enjoy the London skyline and the landscape of the park below. Even on a misty/foggy day the view is still great!

You can see the museum at the bottom of the park.

In my opinion Greenwich Park is a must for tourists who are in London for more than a couple of days.

Wolfe of Quebec is commemorated by this statue. It still bears the scars of German bombs from WW2 and is, in my opinion, the finest viewpoint in London. Pe vârful colinei din parcul Greenwich, nu departe de Observatorul Regal, se înalță cu măreție statua generalului James Wolfe, un simbol al vitejiei și al sacrificiului. Realizată din bronz întunecat, statuia îl înfățișează pe eroul britanic într-o postură demnă și hotărâtă, privind solemn spre orizont, de parcă ar veghea în continuare asupra meleagurilor pe care le-a apărat cu prețul vieții. Generalul poartă uniforma sa militară de epocă, redată cu migală în cele mai fine detalii: epoleți eleganți, tunica decorată, sabia atârnată la șold. Chipul său, marcat de seriozitate și curaj, pare împietrit într-o expresie de tăcută onoare. Privirea lui se pierde dincolo de oraș, peste fluviul Tamisa care strălucește în lumina soarelui. Soclul de piatră solidă pe care se află statuia poartă o inscripție simplă, dar plină de semnificație, care amintește trecătorilor de sacrificiul său în bătălia de la Quebec. În jur, liniștea parcului și adierea blândă a vântului sporesc solemnitatea locului.
