I don't often leave reviews, however having realised what a gem this place is, and the fact it has become a local haunt of mine I simply had to.
Tuesday was another fab night of bingo hosted by Miss Aisles. The Qween pulls in customers simply by waving to them - and she is always serving u entertainment. She is a vision to be seen.
The barman working, Michael, must be some form of a superhuman. Every table was occupied with people sharing their reservations and Michael managed to wait on multiple tables who had ordered food, clean and clear tables, collect plates and glasses whilst pulling pints at the bar - all with a smile on his face and announcing "good job I didn't fake tan otherwise it would be streaking".
The pub has a lot of history and unfortunately it does look like it's decor has been stuck in the past. A lot of things have been removed from inside the venue which exposes more horrors and the lack of maintenance or care for the venue. The old windows, exposed wiring, mis-match of paint colours really is a deterrent to go inside, especially to onlookers thinking about coming in. It is in desperate need of TLC which is why I have given 3 stars for atmosphere. I would not want a photo for the IG or X.
That aside, the bar staff have an abundance of personality which makes the venue both friendly and enchanting. Whenever I frequent it I am instantly felt with warmth and laughter. Michael is a gem and has the ability to bring newcomers into the community within minutes of them entering the bar. Hazel and Jay are always on the ball and watching the team work together is a show in its very own right. They are an infections team that really do support each other and I love it. The embodiment of Love, Laugh, Live - and I definitely recommend you pop along for the drag bingo or their weekend...
Read morePopped in for a cheeky pint… left four hours later emotionally healed, slightly tipsy, and with a firm belief that Daisy should be knighted. She’s the barmaid of dreams – equal parts sass, wisdom, and precision-poured cocktails. I watched her shake a margarita while mediating a break-up AND still remembered I wanted it salt-rimmed. Witchcraft.
Meanwhile, Hazel is out here doing Olympic-level table service, gliding between groups like a caffeinated swan. I blinked and my pint was full. I sneezed and she handed me a napkin. I mentioned I liked olives once and she materialised them.
Nathan runs the joint like a sparkly navy admiral – firm but fabulous. The man could coordinate a moon landing with a clipboard and a glitter pen. Jay is always on the ball – I swear he teleports. One second he’s clearing glasses, the next he’s DJing Madonna remixes like it’s a spiritual duty.
And don’t even get me started on Helga in the kitchen. This woman makes chips so good I’d marry them. If gravy had a religion, she’d be the high priestess.
10/10 will return. Might propose to the jukebox. Might legally change my name...
Read moreThis is my first time in London and when searching for more affordable hotel options, a spot in Greenwich popped up and and jumped, not knowing anything about the area.
In my walks around I spotted the PRIDE flag and wasn’t sure if it was a fixture or passing June decor. To my luck, it was the former.
I stopped in a couple days after I arrived for a traditional Sunday Roast and a few points and discovered that this place is a true gem.
The food was great, the service staff is wonderful and personable, and I got to enjoy a show that night by the one and only Queera Lynn.
The best part though, the patrons. I’ve been in many time since I arrived in Greenwich and am pleased to say I have left the pub with a new friend, or at the very least acquaintance, each time.
Living in NYC can at times be feel isolating and my friends back home and I tend to welcome visitors to make them feel welcome and I can say, the community in Greenwich is very much the...
