The Clay Garden — Attraction in London

I'm curious if these are common issues among London pottery studios. Despite a lovely community, I've decided to end my year-long membership due to several unsatisfactory working conditions.

Firstly, the studio's ventilation is inadequate. The air quality is often poor, especially after overnight firings. I wonder if the studio has an officially regulated ventilation system in place. Secondly, there's a recurring problem with damaged work. Both unfinished and fired pieces have been mishandled, likely due to inexperienced unpaid staff or overcrowding. Finally, the studio's rules and procedures change frequently, making it difficult to adapt. Consistency is crucial for a productive studio environment. It is a pain to leave a once familiar studio, but I believe the change is crucial for my practice.

I’m on week 2 of a 10 week course which has been absolutely awsome! I’m completely new to pottery and hadn’t done any research but the tutors so far have been really great and supportive as well as the other members of the class. The demonstrations at the beginning are great and the ongoing support through the 3 hours (because I forget what they showed unfortunately) has been wonderful. They make sure to give everyone time and are really encouraging. The studio is so relaxing and has a fantastic vibe. Great location for a bit of shopping after class as well. I’m really really enjoying the course and I’m so suprised to see what I’ve managed to learn in such a small space of time. I will definitely be signing up to continue after the 10 weeks has finished.
