The food was okay, and the sea urchin hand roll was surprisingly delicious. At £8 per piece, it’s reasonably priced for London. However, the overall experience was terrible. Almost every time I finished a dish, the plate was taken away immediately—sometimes even before I’d fully set it down. It felt like they were rushing us to leave. Even when there was nothing left to clear, the staff seemed to actively search for something to take away. When it was time to settle the bill, I asked to have the service charge removed. The server insisted on notifying the manager, which I found strange since customers are entitled to decline it. The manager came over and asked why I wanted to remove the charge. I explained that the whole meal felt rushed and unenjoyable, with plates being taken away repeatedly. I even mentioned that on multiple occasions, my plate was cleared before I had even finished my last bite. This happened around ten times, which was incredibly disruptive. The manager reacted aggressively and rudely, outright denying that such a thing could happen. I calmly explained my experience again, but they kept insisting it was impossible. They also claimed that service charge must be paid because it was written on their menu. I pointed out that under UK law, customers can refuse paying service charges if the service is poor, but they continued to argue. They even mentioned that their company, which has branches in Germany, had consulted lawyers who assured them this practice was legal. At this point, I Googled the law on service charges right in front of them and showed it to the manager. Even then, they refused to believe me. They claimed that for takeaway and lunch, service charges weren’t mandatory because they weren’t listed on the menu, but for dinner, it had to be paid. This explanation was completely unfounded. Eventually, the manager begrudgingly agreed to remove the charge, saying, “Fine, I’ll remove it, but don’t act like we’re forcing you.” If this doesn’t count as forcing someone, then what does? The manager also mentioned they would report the incident to their head office. When I asked for the head office’s contact details, they told me to find it on their website instead. As I left, I sarcastically remarked, “You’re doing a great job as a manager with that kind of attitude.” This seemed to set them off, and in front of everyone, they started shouting at me like a market vendor. They claimed that I was the one being rude, even though I was polite throughout our initial interaction. Who, exactly, was being rude here?

Overall good value for money and good, authentic Japanese food. Not necessarily served by Japanese, because the staff is from all over Asia, but most people don’t realise that and anyway it shouldn’t matter. The food quality was good, the atmosphere was good. We did not enjoy the quiet route table management service when we arrived, because we had to we were very sternly asked to wait outside and we weren’t able tomake reservations or come inside or wait inside and the service was quite rude. However, once we were inside, we had fantastic table service so I will still be going back.

This Japanese restaurant is located in London. The restaurant setup is simple. Menu selections are relatively wide. The standard of food preparation is good. Presentation is reasonable. Food portions are reasonable. Service is average. Waiting time for food once seated is reasonable. Waiting for a table in the restaurant will depends on the time of the day. Usually there is a queue during peak periods. Cleanliness is good. A clean public washroom is available within the restaurant. Prices are reasonable.

Tl;Dr Service decent, some staff skip niceties, food was insanely good overshadowing any niggles.

We visited on a Saturday, 17:25, 5mins before dinner service with no booking and to find a big group of people waiting outside the restaurant. A more senior lady seating everyone did some magic and managed to get a table for the four of us but we were told we had to be done by 6:30. She was a bit blunt, borderline rude, but I agreed. They did take our small empty plates that are on the table when we dispensed them between us, also a bit rude, so expect that to happen if you don't order a sharer. It was pleasant after that and we were able to leave on time. Honestly all probably a cultural thing but I'm not certain.

The older man who served us was very positive and energetic and all the other staff were working hard. The restaurant had become jam packed within 30mins of opening and there was a queue past the coffee shop next door when we left so considering the number of customers they must turn over they are doing very well service wise. I think with that in mind they may do things to help turns things over faster. They collected glasses and plates just as we finished with them, as an example. There was a noticeable wait between a couple dishes, ramen arrived quickly but curry came last but I will say it was all fresh and all delicious.

My partner ordered Japanese Tokyo ramen which tasted amazing. Best one I've tasted, very fresh with a sweet umami broth.

I ordered regular size Japanese curry (katsu) with chicken and the portion was huge. Everything about it was great. Crispy juicy chicken, soft veg in the sauce and the katsu curry was great. Thick and flavoursome. I ordered pork gyoza also which was also great. Our friends who recently visited Japan were very impressed which is a good sign.

Despite a few hiccups with service, I would eat here every day honestly. I'm going to be thinking about this dinner for...

Eat Tokyo has declined in quality and has terrible customer service. I had a deeply disappointing and frustrating experience. I recently ordered a special meal for my family, carefully selecting three main dishes and additional sushi intended to be shared among four people. When our order finally arrived, we discovered that an entire bento meal and sushi items were missing, leaving only two meals for my family. This oversight completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable family evening.

When I immediately contacted Eat Tokyo about the missing items, they unapologetically blamed the delivery driver and refused to take any responsibility or offer a practical solution. Instead, they bluntly told me there was nothing they could do and directed me to handle it with Deliveroo. Their lack of accountability and willingness to resolve the issue was astonishingly poor.

Additionally, the quality and portions of their food have noticeably declined year after year. Portions have shrunk significantly, leaving much to be desired, and I've noticed that the cheap plastic containers often leak into the food, giving it an unpleasant chemical taste. Furthermore, they seem to use increasingly lower-quality oils, negatively impacting both the taste and quality of their dishes.

This was not just an inconvenience—it left one of our family members without dinner entirely and severely affected our family meal. Good customer service means addressing mistakes promptly and effectively, neither of which Eat Tokyo demonstrated. I have no intention of ordering from this restaurant again and strongly recommend others avoid Eat Tokyo. Save yourself from their unreliable service, declining food quality, and disappointing...
