The Troxy is a beautiful, historical venue that I'm happy to live so close to. I've been to a few events here now and they're normally well managed and enjoyable, though there's room for improvement in the way some aspects are run.
I was diappointed to find upstairs closed entirely during my latest visit. It was a quiet night, so I understand that closing this area gave the impression of 'fullness' by restricting people to the downstairs area, but this meant that there was very little space to take a seated break from dancing.
Service at the bar is usually good, but my latest visit was an exception. Some staff were slow to serve and an area of the bar had apparently been closed, but without any signage. It took the member of staff standing at this section over five minutes to inform us that we weren't going to be served there. On the plus side, water is available from the side of the stage, so you don't have to fight through the crowd to get off the dancefloor for a drink.
Front door staff are a mixed bag. Most I've encountered have been great, but the lady who checked my bag this last week seemed to be having trouble communicating. She needed to remove a spritz bottle I had in my bag (just body mist, nothing hazardous), which I entirely understand, but couldn't seem to just explain this and then do so, meaning the interaction turned into a bit of a pantomime. It's also disappointing that items like this can't be collected later - other busy venues like Rowan's have an efficient system for it.
In the past I've also had trouble being granted access to the accessible bathroom (I have an invisible condition that necessitates this on occasion). However I do like that hosts are able request changes to bathroom provision - in this case to make all bathrooms gender neutral.
The cloakroom system is really efficient - you enter your phone number and the system texts you your number. It also snaps a picture so you can be recognised, presumably for extra protection and in case your phone...
Read moreWent to an event here on 27th March 2024 with a few friends and the event itself was pretty good however I was not made aware that my small pocket sized fragrance won't be allowed within the venue so I was told by security, which at the time of writing this is by Trojan Security, to throw it away if I wanted to go inside.
I understand that they are not in charge of the policy of the venue as they can only enforce what the management tell them to do however the management team should have made it clear to ticket holders what is prohibited and what is not before hand.
I have sent a couple emails regarding this in which the responses I received were very dissatisfactory as I mentioned I also had a comb in my bag that has a sharp metal point that would've definitely been a much more of a risk than a small pocket sized bottle of perfume.
Whoever I was talking to from "Team Troxy" via email seemed to read past the dangers of bringing in a comb with a sharp metal point which is longer than 3 inches therefore if used in a threatening manner could've been life ending compared to a small pocket sized fragrance and this is coming from a perspective from being a door supervisor myself.
I ended up calling Troxy and asking to speak to management which I was transferred to someone by the name of Simon and was disappointed in his responses too which I'm now assuming was who I was in correspondence with in the emails as he kept on going on about the policy which I acknowledged but he seemed to not understand what I was saying regarding the comb with the sharp metal point.
I would not recommend this venue for anyone to go to or to book for events as organisers of e events as they clearly cannot tell what poses more of a threat between a bottle of a pocket sized fragrance and a comb with a sharp metal point longer than 3 inches.
FYI this was written after the event however because just noticed an error I had to update it and therefore it will say I just posted it recently [9th...
Read moreI had a great time at the Dreamcatcher show, but it was their own staff that had to essentially control everything because Troxy security was awful. Nobody seemed to know where people needed to queue and the security guard who decided to take control of that was very abrasive with everyone despite the crowd being just confused. We also saw him arguing with other security guards over where people needed to line up because we were told to line up in different places by different staff members
VIP ticket holders were left at the back of the venue for a long time before the event organisers themselves came to take us to get our VIP wristbands. The Troxy security guard who decided he was in charge of taking people for VIP wristbands seemed to vanish after leaving us. The staff doing wristbands were confused why nobody was coming up because we were made to wait down the street by Troxy staff and were told we could only go up when he came and got us in small groups, which he was doing at an alarmingly slow rate considering it takes 5 seconds to get the wristband and we had a specific time window to collect them in.
Whilst going in for our VIP meet & greet people were pushing and getting dangerous and made some people in the line panic, and when someone asked security to step in they claimed that it wasn’t for them to deal with. I’m not sure why security was even there since they didn’t try to keep things safe.
It seemed like the head of the event staff had to take over crowd control and organising lines for the whole day and had a lot of issues with the Troxy staff herself.
The only good thing security did was hand out water from the front of the stage throughout the show.
Overall it felt extremely disorganised and unsafe at times and I would try to avoid attending a show at this venue going forward.
The reason I gave the 2 stars was the accessible bar and good view of the stage (though we only got to stand that close because of Dreamcatcher/MMT’s staff organising...
