Small but absolutely gorgeous. A small oasis you could say. It reminds me of a old Victorian garden. It might be small but its packed full of old oak trees, shrubs and wild life. When I say wildlife squereals,Jay's,hedgehogs, and the usually every day birds. The park has several paths witch let's you take in the beauty of the place. The park is near a main road but you wouldn't even know it's there!. It's like a magic garden. It seems to block out the outside noise's. Honest! Its freakyđ.
It's got three entrances,a small gate, a large gate, and a beautiful stone steps witch you get to by the main road. Theres not an official parking area but people park on the side road in front if the park, large gate. The best times to go,in my opinion is early morning, and when its raining. The weekend can be busy but if its raining, your on your own.
It's a lovely place to chill read a book, or just to relax and take in the birds singing or feed the squereal s,they usually eat from your hands, they love monkey nuts in their shells.
You could bring the kids but I would recommend younger children as theres nothing for teens, unless they like nature to do. The younger children can run free and explore. They do allow dogs but they have to be on a lead. Dont be like some dog owners who frequent the park and let them lose to chase the squirrelsđĄ.
Just a few other things. Around the park they are small signs explaining the history of the park also descriptions of fauna and wildlife within the grounds. It also has a group you could join that clean the park and maintain it. All volunteers. They are benches scattered around so you can rest. If you like taking pics you will be spoilt for choice. Some great trees with large canopies which cast some lovely shadows.
If you enjoy peace and quiet and if you got an imagination you could imagine what it was like in Victorian times strolling around this little gem. PS I would recommend when its...
Read moreThe lodge inside the grounds hss been updated over the years. Especially around the back of the building where the new owners have extended their garden area which of course has fencing around for more privacy. Still has the original features as it's a listed building & newly painted windows & doors making it nice to look at when passing around the grounds. New plants have been planted giving the place a much nicer look for the public to walk about & admire different coloured flowers & trees. Which were in full bloom. Many of the old trees that were planted many years ago are still standing with lots of furry animals like squirrels running around foraging for food amongst the grounds. Birds flying in & out of the trees. Just s nice place to sit & admire the view or just sit quietly to read a book or just relax with a friends on one of their benches. Some of their benches have been donated by previous people whose relatives have died & were given permission by Manchester City Council to have engraved benches put in the grounds of Maria Louise Gardens Society as a sign of respect of their loved ones as they must have loved the grounds so much. I myself have been here many times both with my own family & when my parents were alive. I still come here now & again & walk around the grounds & talk to people or just sit quietly & enjoy...
Read moreWe booked this cottage for a special birthday weekend and drove over 2.5 hours, but the stay was very disappointing. A strong damp and mildew smell triggered my asthma, leaving me coughing and unable to sleep even with windows open. We should have left after the first night, but I tried to stick it out for my partner. By the second night, my coughing was so bad we couldnât share a room and my partner slept on the small sofa. Exhausted, we couldnât enjoy our plans and left a night early. We offered a fair compromise â a refund for just one night â but it was refused. This property seems non-refundable for a reason. Iâve seen other reviews mention the same damp issue which were ignored, and I expect mine will be too. The air quality is so poor it should be inspected for environmental hazards. A shame, as the location is lovely but completely unsuitable for a...
