The atmosphere was nice and welcoming, and the seating upstairs was quite spacious and very nicely decorated. And, I liked how it was such a family friendly environment, with so many families dining in as well.
The service overall was average/normal, however some workers were quiet rude, with one being confrontational over leaving our umbrella in the basket - instead of explaining why we should, he kept insisting we had to. Also, after waiting 50 minutes in the rain, once we got in, there were no pleasant welcomings or any 'thank you for your wait' type of pleasantries, it was a simple 'your seats are upstairs' and we had to guess which seats were ours. Another point, when it started raining while we were in the queue outside, they initially offered us umbrellas, but then everyone else who joined the queue afterwards had no idea about them and were using their jackets to keep themselves dry, one person we even had to tell ourselves to go inside and ask for an umbrella.
Food was very sub par, I ordered a £12 shakshuka which arrived with one egg, and a hot cast iron skillet. The tissue was under the skillet, which meant I was expected to hold the hot iron handle and lift the skillet to get to it. The skillet was also quite small and deep, which meant trying to scoop out some of the shakshuka with the bread was awkward and I'd occasionally touch my hand on the hot skillet. The shakshuka presentation overall looked nice for an insta story, but is clearly poorly thought out for the eating process, especially with bread.
Coffee was also sub-par, I ordered a flat white which was very watery and weak. Also from my point of view, coffee is a drink best enjoyed either alongside or after a meal, not before, which is how they served it. Unfortunately this meant by the time the food had arrived, my coffee was...
Read moreVery Disappointed After Years of Loyalty We’ve been loyal customers of this café for over two years, travelling all the way from Bradford just to enjoy breakfast here. Despite the long drive and often waiting 45 minutes to an hour outside, we never minded — the food and experience were always worth it.
However, our recent visit left us very disappointed. I ordered the smashed avocado toast, which is priced at £12 — not cheap, but we've always been happy to pay for the quality we've received in the past. Unfortunately, this time was completely different.
The portion was shockingly small: one very thin slice of toast with a minimal amount of avocado barely spread across it, a tiny egg, and a few cherry tomatoes. It looked nothing like what we’ve been served before. The hummus — which is listed on the menu — was less than a teaspoon and spread thinly on the plate. There was no salad or garnish, which was usually part of the dish. Presentation was poor and it felt like a rushed job with no attention to detail.
I raised my concerns with the waiter and asked whether the portion sizes had been reduced. His explanation didn’t make much sense, and when I asked if he thought it was fair to charge £12 for what I received, he had no answer and said he would speak to the manager.
The scrambled egg I requested was undercooked and had to be sent back. Overall, it felt like the kitchen was just rushing food out without care or consistency.
The manager did offer us a small discount on the final bill, which we appreciated — but even after that, we still paid £25 for two very bare minimum breakfasts.
This visit was a huge letdown. We’ve always loved this café, but based on this experience, we’ve decided we won’t be returning. It's incredibly disappointing to see such a drop in...
Read moreI orginally gave this cafe five stars because the food and the staff were excellent and it was wheelchair accessible.
Then it moved to the new venue. Despite saying the entrance is wheelchair accessible, it is not. there is a ramp but it is far too steep for safe use by an independant wheelchair user and almost certainly too steep for many powerchair users. The ramp is made of concrete and has a hole in the top of the ramp which my front castor became caught in, the ramp leads to a heavy door and there is just barely enough space to turn around between the door and the counter due to tables and chairs placed right by the door.
I do not know if the bathrooms at the new venue are actually wheelchair accessible as on my last visit I was unable to get any further in to the cafe than the very inside of the door as there was no space to move around when all the tables were occupied.
Additionally, wheelchair users should beware that the pavements around the new location are very poorly maintained. This is not the cafes fault, of course, but it was certainly an obvious problem before the move and having pushed myself over difficult and dangerous terrain to get to my favourite cafe in Didsbury only to be unable to safely get in or out or to purchase any food was extremely disappointing.
Caramello, please put up more accurate information about how accessible you are and aren't and please get that ramp removed and replaced...
