A lovely experience at the East Grinstead museum. I went on one of their monthly tours, with particular interest to the medical side. However, I found the town historical side particularly fascinating as well, as it opened up my hidden interest in medieval economy. Much to the annoyance of my female healthcare colleagues I now know thanks to McIndoe that the perfect cure for a gentleman who has faced war is a lovely pint of his majesty's finest (McIndoe had a beer keg on the ward). The only feedback I do have is that I probably would've spent a bit more in the gift shop if there were more local souveniers. The most heart moving and inspiring section is devoted to The Guinea Pig Club, a band of 649 seriously burned airmen in WWII (including my grandfather Dr Sandy Saunders) who allowed pioneering plastic surgeon Archibald McIndoe to experiment new techniques and therapies, not just on the horrifically burned and disfigured airmen's bodies, but also fixing their minds. I was surprised when I found out how this "little" town changed over the last 67 years from 1955 when the train station started providing service and transportation to London.
