The Crown — Restaurant in Mid Sussex

Highly recommend The Crown in East Grinstead, for a number of reasons. Firstly, having recently been diagnosed with a number of food intolerances, I rang them to check what they had for their Father's Day lunch (having previously had a lovely roast there with gluten free gravy) I spoke to Steve who told me that they had this and also confirmed that I could bring in my own frozen gf Yorkshire puds.

When we got there, they went out of their way to help both my daughter (recently dairy intolerant) and myself, in order that we could have as much of the roast as possible. After not really having experienced such helpfulness anywhere before and certainly nothing on this scale, this was SO lovely and really 'made' our visit there.

As ever, the food was absolutely delicious, their stuffing was gf, they actually advised me to ask for gf Yorkshires which they'd make specially next time we book and even gave my daughter extra roasties because she wasn't able to have the mashed potatoes.

The Crown certainly 'went the extra mile' and just as in several previous visits, (only this time with such a high number of things I had to avoid), it was as enjoyable as ever. Big thanks to Steve and his team and we look forward to...

After reading the reviews I was really looking forward to a nice meal with my two children. However, although the surroundings are very modern and clean and the staff were friendly I can't say a lot about the food. My son and I opted for the 'crispy' pork belly roast dinner, which turned up with a gellatinous lump of soft pork fat on the top. My roast potatoes were hard, I have to say mine because my son didn't get any. We both asked not to have the kale as neither of us like it but both meals turned up with it on the plate. My daughter said she enjoyed her meal of mac, broccoli and cheese bake although she did leave quite a lot. The Crown was not as busy as I thought it would be but we still waited for over half an hour for our food. Despite the main course disaster two of us ordered dessert which was ok. All in all I have to say we shan't be returning. Very disappointing...

Terrible service, four of us for lunch time meal, wait at bar staff just disappeared, eventually young man came back and ordered drinks, Asked for glass of sparkling wine he said he did not have any sparkling wine, but we notice small bottles of Prosecco, he told me it was NOT sparkling wine but bit like champagne, so he had no idea!! Food menu very limited no proper fish dish unless fish pie or fish and chips, had fish pie(which was 80%mashed potato and came with potato wedges!, no other choice of veg!! Very long wait for meals to arrive and it was not busy, staff not in view most of the time, table was not cleared when finished main course nor were other tables around us, no staff in view, wanted a dessert but they didn’t,t have any left, again please note it was not busy, finished drinks, payed and left will never go...
