Built in the 14th century and originally used as a hermitage and a lighthouse. By the 16th century it was used as a lookout point for the arrival of Pilchers in the bay. The person manning the building known as the ‘ huer’ would shout down to alert the local fisherman of the arrival of the pilchards. it is protected as listed building since the 1950s. Famously the Beatles visited this location in 1967.

This beautiful Huer's hut was an old lookout for the Huer who was responsible for spotting the shoals of herrings/sardines in the bay. There are signs at the hut for visitors to discover more. There is a set of stone steps running up the outside of the hut which you can climb for a spectacular view across the fabulous Cornish coastline, if you're brave enough! Hold on to your hats!

Great Newquay Landmark. I find myself often repeating the mantra on the disk inlay in the concrete... "HUBBA HUBBA" Great views of the Newquay coast. Don't miss: this is listed as part of the Newquay Discovery Trail, which links together several landmarks within Newquay. Visit Newquay Tourist Information Centre for more info.

I enjoyed visiting Huer's Hut and took many great photographs of it. It's a good piece of history and interesting to learn about it. Visited while staying in Newquay. When climbing the steps to the top, it was slippery and there is not much grip to hold onto. Good views and would recommend visiting.

The oldest building in NewQuay where a spotter would sit here the whole dsy during the old days... spotting for shoals of fish coming into the bay. When such is spotted, he would alert his fishing mates on the beaches to launch their boats towards the shoals for a rich bounty of sardines etc.

This is an interesting stopping off point if you are doing a coastal walk. You can't actually go inside but it was popular with visiting children to climb up the outside steps and perch on the top! Always nice to find a place that has a historic story and good views out to sea
