Very surprised by the rating for this plac - perhaps the other rooms are better than Atlantis?
Although nicely decorated (although tatty in places), there were some high flaws with the game.
Several puzzles seemed to not trigger on completing. Repeating the solution seemed to work.
Some puzzles were solved by simply spinning things at random.
There's a 5 character combination lock that gives you 4 characters through various puzzles. This means you can skip the last puzzle and just guess the last character. Very amateurish design.
There was a lot of text to read in the dark, which was very difficult with a poor font chosen. The text inside the electric box is almost illegible due to being printed at a low resolution.
Solving some puzzles resulted in no feedback apart from a small click elsewhere in the room.
Theres an action puzzle involving a scope that didn't seem to make any sense. We were told afterwards the instructions were given via audio played beforehand, but this was difficult to hear. There were written instructions by one part of the equipment, but this didn't actually correspond to what needed to be done. There was no feedback given when we 'missed', so we spent 15 minutes just repeating the same thing over and over. It took 2 hints before we were able to figure out what was actually being asked of us. The game also uses green and red in it's solution. The room also was lit entirely in red apart from one green light. This, confusingly, played no part in the solution.
The first 15 minutes of the puzzle are fun, with some simple but satisfying puzzles. If it wasn't for the poor quality of the rest of the game I think we have been out in 25 minutes...
Unlikely to be back for the other rooms, which is a shame. The host was nice, but offered nothing past an apology for the bad...
Read moreExtremely disappointed to not get to experience our escape hunt, we bought a gift card for my mum but they only last 12 months, when we were able to book following some circumstances preventing us going sooner in the 12 month period the room was not available before the gift cards expired so we began calling to see if we could extend our gift card, we called and called the main customer support line and the Norwich escape hunt venue line directly for weeks on end, the main customer support line for boom battle bar and escape hunt just says they’re experiencing higher than normal call volumes and to leave a message, the specific venue line did the same thing whenever I called and when I told them this today they had no idea about it so the voicemails just disappear somewhere I guess? I had also tweeted and emailed using the website contact page and heard nothing over weeks. The card then expired. When I finally and miraculously got through to someone today at the Norwich branch she was lovely and patient with my frustration but said her manager says gift cards are bought by them from a third party so they can’t extend it, I explained I’d been calling for weeks since before it expired and we’d had extenuating circumstances preventing us coming sooner and we’d tried to honour the card they just said sorry there’s nothing they can do. £50 down the drain and never got to experience escape hunt due to crap customer service, such a shame as we were so looking forward to it and they basically took my £50 and...
Read moreWe've tried the Atlantis room as a couple today and I've got to say, as someone who's done a fair few rooms, this one has been quite disappointing towards the end.
The first half or 2/3rds of the room were pretty straightforward and enjoyable from an ambience point of view, but after that, things went downhill for us. The space is simple but pretty and packs a nice amount of puzzles into one room, which I liked.
Here's the big detractor: A big crucial action puzzle had prompts that did not really make sense to us in the way it was explained (fair enough, can happen) - but even when trying to follow the written hints and 2 requested additional tips, things did feel pretty arbitrary and not clear at all. It stretched on really long and there was no sense of accomplishment when we finally got through it.
There were a few other bits that didn't quite work, sometimes mechanically, sometimes thematically, but I would have ignored that happily if there'd been a better way to deal with that segment we've got stuck on.
The host was welcoming and gave us a good intro, so I want to make clear they've done their job well. We've not tried any other rooms there, so maybe we just got unlucky with Atlantis - but since today was a birthday gift for an escape room enthusiast, I had quite high hopes that the experience sadly...
