Fantastic for everyone

This is an amazing (immaculately clean) park located within the town centre of Pontypridd. There is so much to explore including a well equipped children's playground (for all age groups) with a large sandpit, tunnels, climbing frames, zip-wire, slides, swings and roundabouts. There is also equipment for children with disabilities, as well as tennis courts, historical gardens with statues, the Lido (swimming pool), a bowling green and traditional bandstand.

The park is very flat making it accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs There are lots of benches and green space suitable for picnics. Within the park there are various cafes, pretty flower beds and lots of wildlife including squirrels and ducks residing on the River Taff. Throughout the year the park hosts fairgrounds, firework displays, circuses and concerts.

There are three entrances leading to the vibrant Town Centre of Pontypridd. Within the town centre there is a traditional indoor market, a modern library, lots of cafes, coffee shops, bars, charity shops, a Wednesday and Saturday outdoor market, independent shops and high street favourites such as Greggs, Peacocks, Shoe Zone, Savers, H Samuels, B & M Bargains, Boots, Iceland, The Works, Pep & Co and Warren James to name just a few.

I would definitely recommend a visit to both "Ponty Park" and the town centre, because there is an abundance of parking (in and around the town centre) and there are great public transport links (bus and train), the park is a cheap day out for families and the town centre offers a unique...

I love Ynysangharad Park in Pontypridd. I was brought up in Pontypridd so the park was somewhere that I went often to while growing up in my youth. It is much the same today, as it has always been, clean, tidy and generally kept in good order. However, today the children's Park area has changed. There used to be the old children's swimming pool with the swings, slides and other fun stuff for the kids, around it. However, and more's the pity, the old swimming pool is gone and a new children's playground has emerged. It's in tip top condition but the old swimming pool was always free for the kids when it was open. There were a lot of complaints when it was taken away to be replaced instead by the transformation of the old adults, outdoor swimming pool which is located next to the children's playground and always had its own enclosure and still continues to, to this day. However, instead of the adults outdoor pool being used just for adults, today it comprises of an adults pool and childrens and toddlers pool all in the same area. The sad part is though, that now, even the kids have to pay to go in. It's not much but still, some people would have preferred to have kept it the old way. However, on a positive note, the security around the pool is better and it does at least,...

Beautiful in the heart of Pontypridd. Lovely gardens with statues of James James and Evan James near a bandstand. There's also a cricket and football field (with their own buildings on site). The lido is next to the play park which has been restored beautifully and the play area is newly renovated. Its now open plan with more seating. There is a walkway next to the river and its a great place to take dogs (on a lead next to play area). Activities regularly take place there like fun runs, park run, Parti Ponty and theme days. It's also part of the celtic bike trail. However in the rain the play area is water logged, why does the water no longer drain away? The cafe is very expensive (but town is a short walk) and not enough is done to enforce rules such as cyclists zipping through (they should be walking next to the play area) and the occasional drunk. The century-old jewel of Ponty with its impressively-restored 'The National Lido of Wales' with its multiple, outdoor heated pools, a huge 'adventure playground', cafe, tennis courts, football pitch, well-kept cricket pitch, historic bandstand, flowerbeds, and acres of leafy and open spaces with riverside walks. Often holds events and attractions too such as fun days, fairs, parades and concerts. Extended hours in summer is appreciated. No parking on-site, but multiple car parks aren't far. The town's bus and train stations are also a short walk away. Can be accessed via Park View / Bridge St (NE), the bridge by Gatto Lounge (NW), the bridge opposite EE/Natwest (SW) and via the Treforest part of the Taff Trail which runs to and through it (SE).
