Returning to Tugra after first visiting during their launch a few months ago felt like a lovely full circle moment. We had stopped for lunch back then and were keen to return at a later date for an evening meal.
Visited again on Saturday evening with 2 friends, one who had also visited during their launch. It was definitely buzzing and fully booked, which was nice to see in comparison to our quieter first visit.
Arrived at our reserved table to which we were promptly seated, although others were waiting. However, due to a shortage of menus available, we waited 10/15 minutes before receiving them. We were then left for 20/25 minutes before someone returned to take our order.
We had ordered 2 starters and 2 mains and requested for them to be brought out altogether as the starters were to be had as mains. However, these were brought out early and I was left waiting another 20 minutes for friends mains to arrive whilst my starters had gone cold in the meantime.
The presentation and quality of the food appeared promising, but unfortunately, there was a lack of flavours coming through (Lamb with Hummus and Garlic Prawns). I had also asked for a basket serving of bread but was served 2 pieces of bread with each starter, 2 were soft and enjoyable whilst the other was like biting into a crunchie bar!
Mains were the chicken kebab and chicken and lamb kebab. The portion sizing in comparison to our initial visit was considerably smaller and not as appealing or appetising (could be considered a child's portion). My friend was still hungry after leaving.
The live music/singer was fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed but a little too loud where it was difficult to have/understand conversations whilst sat at the table, especially with my friend who already has hearing issues.
The other issue we noticed was, although plentiful staff, everyone was being served by various members of staff, which was a little off-putting. A suggestion would be if staff were allocated 'stations' or set tables as information was being missed, leading to confusion and misunderstanding as this became evident in the case of ordering my dessert.
The waitress cleared the table and was asked if a Kunafeh could be ordered and they took the order and weren't to be seen again. So 10/15 minutes later, I asked another waitress clearing the table next to us if they could check and confirm if my order had been put through and they came back to confirm it had and that Kunafeh desserts take a little longer than usual to prepare. So we waited and another 20 minutes had passed and I asked another member of staff passing if they could check how long it would be to which they returned to inform me that the Kunafeh order had not been put through. At this stage we had been in the restaurant nearly 3 hours and I asked them to cancel it.
I would have loved to return for a proper steak meal and Kunafeh with family sometime, but I'm not sure I will in a hurry or if I did most probably avoid doing so on a Friday/Saturday night.
The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a lovely vibe and the manager and all the staff are very warm, welcoming, friendly and energetic but unfortunately it doesn't match the potential of the service they could actually provide, which is unfortunately letting themsleves run short of being an amazing establishment that is much needed locally...
Read moreIn my opinion, I think this is overpriced for what it is and this is an honest review of the meals our party chose. Maybe some meals we just chose a bad one etc. looking at other reviews it seems steaks are really the only thing that's consistently good.
Starters, calamari 4 rings. Cooked ok, tasted mainly of thick batter, not worth the price with the tiny amount of squid in all that batter. My wife has the calamari dish in any restaurant we visit that has it available, unfortunately she said this was the worst she has had so far.
Feta cheese sticks. Great
Spicy sausage, dry. Very dry. Tasted like a thick Aldi peperami stick.
Hummus, good. One slice of bread. Ridiculous for the bowl of hummus you get.
Kids meals very disappointing. Quite literally the cheapest frozen fish fingers and chicken nuggets. Nothing fresh at all about them. We had, had chicken nuggets from the pound bakery earlier in the day which were on par with these to give you an idea. My daughter didn't eat the nuggets. Considering the establishment we were expecting good quality home made type nuggets and fish fingers but this didn't deliver at all. They did enjoy the chips though.
3 mains of various cuts of steak. All beautifully cooked and delicious, but with a grand total of 3 baby potatoes as a side. Ridiculous for £30-£35+ for a steak essentially.
Beef ribs on the menu. Unfortunately my wife chose these along with the calamari so her whole experience was a bit disappointing really. Turns out it's not on the bone at all, it's just pulled beef smothered in BBQ sauce in a slop on a plate. And that's the whole dish, no sides included or anything for the price. Massive disappointment. Double checked menu, no mention of if being pulled or not being on the bone.
Sizzling chicken fajitas, didn't come sizzling at all. However, they were really tasty. Small small portion for £20 though.
Dessert, baklava tasty . Cheesecake tasty.
Received the bill, absolutely no mention of an automatic 10 percent "service charge". Only realised after getting home and looking the receipt over. Very disappointing when restaurants sneak this on without mention. With a bill of nearly £300 and not really an over the top service above any other 'fancy' restaurant we have visited, a mention at least would be good for the customer.
Overall we sadly won't be returning or recommending. This is just our experience and looking at other reviews, if you order the right dish lots of people seem to enjoy...
Read moreAbsolutely awful service!!! Didn't even get our food to able to talk about the taste!
Went at 7.30pm and got seated pretty swiftly. Ordered 7.45 and asked for starters and mains to come together as one of us was only having starters as a main. Starters arrived pretty quickly, when they arrived we explained to the waitress who took the order that we did ask for them to arrive with the meal. She apologised and said she did put it down but the kitchen is busy so they must have not seen the note. We accepted. 8.30pm our mainmeal still has not arrived so we asked the waitress how long, she said they were busy.
8.45pm- we ask the manager to come over to the table, before we speak he says he doesn't like our behaviour and said to my sister you need to learn to smile! We are busy! We then explain calmly that it has been an hour since we have had our starters and he denies that and continues to tell us how our behaviour is not acceptable as we have asked where our food is twice! We explained we have kids waiting to be picked up and we had said would be there for 9.30 as our table was only booked for 2 hours. At 9pm we still had no received our food! He then says he will go and find out where our food is, comes back and said it's on the way! 9pm no food has arrived. We walked out.
We drove an hour to get to the restaurant to be seated and not eaten 1 hour and 20 minutes later. If they had told us before seating us that the wait for food is over an hour we would have gone elsewhere and not sat down as we knew we didn't have that long. Even if the waitress had told us when the starters arrived we could have chosen to leave then. At no point were the wait times mentioned and in turn they called us out for asking how long the food was going to be!!
Will never go there again and would not recommend unless you have all the time in the world to...
