I took a three year old here, he was so enthusiastic & loved every moment, I think we had a ride on all the miniature engine rides (at 50p each), we took the shorter ride on the diesel to Rushcliffe Halt £9 for adults my 3 year old was free, I believe the longer ride is £12 for adults not sure of childrens price, we watched the model railway & thank you to the lovely young man visiting who told us all the names of Thomas & friends. Run mainly by volunteers, who are lovely, so enthusiastic, many had built their own trains. A boys/tom-boy's paradise, so I loved every moment as a tomboy & my 3 year old wants to go again. Looking forward the Steam engines running. There is a cafe, shop & toilets, forgive me I was to busy with a three year old to notice if there were facilities for the less able & their wheelchairs, but will update next time I go. An added bonus is that it is next door to a lovely country park..so make a...
Read moreWe went for the Santa Train event. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the staff the experience was not great. They could not resolve the fog which took away any view from the train but it still was a disappointment. The train itself was clean but tired. There was no consistent lighting which meant on a dreary day the carriage was very dark. It was also cold and damp. Santa came to each booth and spent very little time talking to the children. At a price of £12 per head I expected more. There was no music on the carriage, no decorations, no joy really which was a shame for the staff/volunteers who worked hard to deliver what people paid for. In addition it was advertised as mulled wine and mince pies, a small cold bottle of red with a not very nice mince pie did not meet that description. As much as I wish the venue well for the future, and I am glad we tried it, we will not be returning...
Read moreMiniature and model railways are very good, (although you never know if the ride on trains will actually be running...) our toddler loves them both, especially getting to see Thomas and friends in the model railway shed. But the rest of it needs a lot of work! Feels like you're walking round a scrap yard, no signs, and very run down facilities. The cafe is absolutely dreadful, ordered 2 full English breakfasts, not offered any choice, (for some reason one came with a hash brown, but the other a slice of fried bread?) And the tea arrived with milk already in it, (what if one of us liked it black?) Had to go back and remind them we ordered a piece of cake, but when it did come it was a delicious homemade chocolate cake. If you're expecting something like the stations of the Leicester half of the GCR you'll be very disappointed, hope they update it before they finish connecting the two...
