Small museum displaying a range of items from St Andrews and linked to St Andrews many set up as though you were walking around the streets and walking into the shop. Exhibits covered eg old pharmacists displays and machines for making pills. Who knew they had to make their own pills originally?? Old shop signs and shop displays eg vintage tins and weighing scales, old drawer sets that used to house dry goods. Old Post office equipment etc.
Lovely gardens to walk around which are wheelchair accessible from a side gate, sensory garden and scented garden for visually impaired. Nice seating areas so you can sit and appreciate the garden in the sunshine. A drystane bench area has recently been built which provides a lovely focal point at the back of the garden.
Around the periphery of the garden are other sheds to go into each housing a different display. One of washing equipment such as wooden implement and bucket to agitate the washing, wringer and washboard etc. Blacksmiths equipment in another area.
Upstairs within the museum there is clothing and children's games etc We laughed to see children's bathing costumes of a particular style we both remembered wearing. An opportunity is given to share your memories of St Andrews with other visitors by leaving a sticky note on a display board. We were happy to share our own memories of happy days spent in St Andrews.
Entry to this museum is free although like all such places they depend on donations to help with upkeep and expanding...
