I appreciate (and respect) that this is a social enterprise, however there are improvements to be made. Waited for a table (fine - it was Saturday lunchtime) and when one became available, the staff member said he would be right back to clean it as it was very dirty from the previous customers. 10 mins later, we had to ask someone to wipe the table - this consisted of someone moving the mess around with a dry towel. I used my own antibac wipes to clean it in the end. Ordered soup to be told 5 mins later that the flavour requested had run out. When the alternative arrived, it came without bread or a knife - again, had to ask someone to get this for us. The "small kids sandwich" was made with 2 huge pieces of thick crusty bread (lovely, but not suitable for a child) which wasn't even cut up. I would have struggled to manage this, let alone my 3 year old. The glass my water came in was filthy and I had to ask for another. On the plus side, it is reasonably priced, the soup was very tasty and we had a lovely chat with one of the staff members who came to clear our table at the end and was very friendly. Overall, ok, but probably wouldn't return in a hurry. Not a reflection on the training staff, but on the general set up and management of the...
Read moreFirst impressions are good, the menu has some interesting options and that's what tempted us in. Ultimately the food was very good. However, we ordered drinks and food and the drinks arrived fairly swiftly, but as time went on and we still hadn't had our food, we grew concerned. All around the café are notices asking customers to be patient, as staff might have difficulties or be on work experience, so we probably left it far longer than we would normally. After 30 minutes, we asked about our food and were initially told it wouldn't be much longer. A few mins later they asked what we had ordered. Then they came back and admitted they had misplaced our "ticket". Once they'd realised their mistake, the food wasn't too long and it was good. As our drinks were now cold, they gave us a free drink as recompense, which was kind. Once everything finally arrived it was tasty. The only other comment I would make is that the falafels were really cold and they would have been nicer warmed and perhaps add a tsp or two of hummus to the salad, as it was a bit lacking...
Read moreHad an absolutely fantastic experience dining here! We stumbled upon this café by chance, and I’m so glad we did. I was pleased to see they offered gluten-free bread and asked if the Full Scottish Breakfast could be made gluten-free. Right away, they asked whether it was for coeliac disease or an intolerance, which, as someone with coeliac, was a huge relief.
The staff took great care to ensure my meal was safe, even mentioning that it might take a little longer so they could thoroughly wipe down surfaces before preparation. While it’s not a dedicated gluten-free kitchen, I felt completely comfortable and safe eating here.
On top of that, the food was absolutely delicious, and the latte was perfect. The staff were incredibly kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I...
