Great little beach at historical site with a natural pool amongst the rock pools. It is a sandy and pebbly beach, so lots to do and discover, but it's also small so can get busy. Being close to the castle means not much can be done regarding the access which is via stairs. Not full stars as the last stairs are tight and especially with regards to beach-lovers that benefit from mobility support. Extra point for the wind shelter and the view towards the west, which means that one doesn't get blown away and there's potential for a romantic sunset view close to the water. The geology makes it a good place for rock pooling, and there's an enclosed pool for those wanting a swim even when the tide is out. The natural ruggedness of the cliffs is somewhat diminished by the walls constructed as part of the sea defence, but these are necessary to protect the castle and nearby clifftop buildings. Plus it's quite sheltered, so a good place to enjoy a sunny day. Only drawback is it's tricky to reach, due to the narrow steep access, not great for buggies and impossible for the ambulatory impaired.
