I live in Shrewsbury town centre and visit Shrewsbury Market Hall once or twice a week. The market hall is a jewel in the crown for Shrewsbury and an absolute must visit for any visitor to Shrewsbury.
Firstly note the opening times. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Opening hours 08:00 - 16:00.
Limited opening on Thursday - only a handful of essential stories open. All restaurants and cafes tends to be closed on Thursday.
Closed - Monday and Sunday.
All the food and drink stalls (not exclusively) tend to be on the main lower floor, restaurants and cafe around sides. Upper floor you find more of the lifestyle stalls - artists stalls, vinyl record stalls, travel, antiques….the list goes on. There are toilets on the upper level and lift access to all floors.
I get my fruit and veg from JP Fruits and meat and eggs from William Dodd Butchers. Lovely community feel once you become a regular face. Yes, you may pay more for produce than at a supermarket but you are supporting the local economy, buying superior quality produce sourced locally and not lining the pockets of faceless shareholders!
Note - some stores only take cash. There is a NatWest bank across the road that dishes out £5 notes.
My advice to first time visitors - plan your visit first. The amount of people who have given poor reviews because ‘stalls being closed on a Thursday’ is laughable. That’s your own fault for not checking opening times. Take responsibility and plan ahead!
Take your time when visiting. Lots to see and enjoy. Do enjoy a spot of lunch there but be warned during peak times, particularly Friday and Saturday lunch time you may have to wait for a table. House of Yum, one of my favourite Thai restaurants quite often I will have to wait an hour or so for a table. They do take your number and call you when it’s ready, so you don’t have to...

The variety here is fantastic. Whether you’re after delicious local food, unique souvenirs, beautiful books, stylish clothes, handcrafted paintings, or artisanal home decor, there’s something to catch your eye at every turn. It’s a treasure trove for anyone who enjoys discovering one-of-a-kind finds and supporting small businesses.
The market is clean, well-organized, and bathed in beautiful natural light, which makes wandering through it all the more enjoyable. Every corner feels vibrant and full of life, with friendly vendors and a welcoming atmosphere that invites you to linger.
If you’re visiting Shrewsbury, make sure this is at the top of your list. It’s more than just a market — it’s the heart of the town. Definitely worth...
