Such a shame, we couldn’t wait to get into the new Mardol restaurant but it wasn’t what we had hoped for. We got a table booked for 8:15pm & went for a couple of drinks in town prior to the meal looking forward in advance to the food. We ordered spring rolls (£6.75) & Satay skewers (£7.10) for starters along with two ‘pints’ of Singha at £5 each but they are more like half to 3/4 pint glasses. The starters were infact fresh & quite tasty so a decent beginning but they are a bit pricey for what you get. We then ordered the Thai spicey rice at £14.95 along with the green beef curry at £12.95 for our mains. We were both very much looking forward to our mains having recently returned from Thailand for our honeymoon where we fell in love with the food & the restaurant had a similar vibe/smells to what we had experienced. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to expectations, both our mains were very bland, my spicey rice had no kick whatsoever. We did tell the waiter when he came over to ask if everything was ok that it wasn’t what we expected. I was offered a spoonful of ground up chillies to spice up my dish but that would have ruined the dish altogether. I asked for some salt instead which slightly helped. My wife’s green curry tasted very similar to a honey & mustard chicken tonight sauce which was very watery & lacked substance. Our beers were flat but ordered another 2 which were no different, this was also mentioned to the staff. We left paying the full amount of £61.75 but genuinely gutted that the food & drink fell very short of what we’d expected especially as the market venue does so well. There was also a bit of an odd set up with an unattended child asleep in a pram by the unisex toilets along with quite a few people going in & out of the kitchen area (not staff). Overall it was disappointing & I can’t see us returning which is such a shame as Shrewsbury lacks a proper sit down Thai restaurant. I know they’ve not been open too long but first impressions...
Read morehighlights: Spicy fried rice (chicken) was amazing. It was pleasantly spicy (not recommended for those with low spice tolerance). Good portion sizes. Not too little, but not too much of an overwhelmingly large portion either. "Goldilocks perfect" Upon asking, they gave two extra little plates so that we could share food.
Could be better: The pad thai is served with a small amount of fresh veg, but i think it could be fried with more veg (personal preference). It had a bit of rather sweet sauce, which was different to what I had anticipated. However, it is good for the price (£7.50). It would be nice if House of Yum could expand their kitchen to accommodate for their popularity/demand.
To note: Very popular restaurant in the market hall, so you will need to book a seat. We went at 12:30pm (during the empty mid-Christmas-new-year's time), but had to come back for a table for 2 reserved at 1:30pm. The service is also a little slow, because it is popular, so bring something you can enjoy doing whilst waiting (eg card game, or a fun conversation topic).

Read moreI was looking for something to eat and when I saw this little stall & how busy it was I thought to myself it must be good so decided to stay for food. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly as they found me somewhere to sit, I was then given a food and drink menu. There was so much food to choose from and a special board and the prices are reasonable. When the waitress came to take my order she asked me about my preferences in food to make sure that when I ordered o get the food at the spice level i would enjoy so I chose the grilled scallops to start and a green chicken curry for main. Both courses were to quote the name yum and I will definitely return for another meal. As I was there I also noted that they do an occasional evening opening which would be a nice time to go as group and I can imagine that it gets just as busy as a lunch time. Overall I would highly recommend that if you enjoy Thai food it's well...
