It’s always nice to visit and the area is always busy so get there early to park. Parking is expensive even for disabled so we don’t go as often as we did. The market stalls are along the roadside facing the kerb so it’s safe from traffic. There are a lot less stalls than a couple of years ago but there are food stalls, baked goods, cakes, sweets as well as a couple of chandler type stalls for kitchenware. There is a good stall for slippers, I have purchased several pairs over the years and they have all worn well. There is a great stall for printed T Shirts of animals, American Indians, skulls, dragons and motorbikes. I buy one on nearly every visit because I wear them for working on cars or my dirtier hobbies and I can’t wear them out. The gentleman that runs it is so friendly and helpful, he is like a friend helping you to choose designs colours and sizes , well worth a visit. There are a number of ladies clothes stalls but they all sell similar garments and those that my wife has bought have soon fallen apart or gone out of shape. If you need a hat gents there is a good stall for cowboy style hats of all materials and good quality leather belts that last years. Finally there are a number of stalls selling what look like small home business goods of which we have had a few for ourselves as well as buying for presents. Even though the market has shrunk a lot it’s still worth a visit as it’s a nice setting with plenty of other shops and tearooms. There is a Chippy which used to be the best fish and chips I’ve had and even though it’s overpriced it was worth it. We tried it as usual but it’s our last visit, the quality has really gone down and the prices have really gone up. its fish and chips are no longer crispy and dry but wet with fat which pooled in the bottom...
Read moreSkipton market is on Wednesday's Friday's and Saturday's. Some stalls are there every day, but some only on specific days. For example Howard's, a fantastic ladies fashion company, run by family who love a chat and a laugh, has 2 stalls 3 times a week and a florist with beautiful flowers at reasonable prices is only there on a Friday at the moment. So it's not the same every time. Howards and the Cheese stall are a great pull to Skipton market for a great many loyal customers from near and far. Recently the Council closed the road through Skipton main street on market days thereby enhancing the market and making it more of a tourist attraction than a shopping experience. Despite this they have decided to reopen the road again. This is why I've rated 4 stars. The council let's the market down, not the hard working stall holders who bring revenue and visitors to the town 3...
Read moreSkipton Market was the second Town in England to be granted a Royal Charter permitting it to operate a Market in 1203. The Market is operated officially 4 days per week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday & Saturday. Since Covid, the High Street is closed for pedestrian access to the Market, 3 days each week. However, as Monday is usually only a partial Market it is only accessible from the pavements. It is definitely the best & most well attended Market throughout England today. The Saturday Market is currently the busiest day, whereas before Covid, Wednesday & Saturday were equally busy. Definitely, a Market to visit. Prior to Covid, there was a Special Festive Market over 2 Sundays in December regularly drawing 10,000 visitors each Sunday. Unfortunately, the events were cancelled in 2020 due to Covid restrictions. A decision has yet to be made...
