One of our favourite dog walking locations. Big open grassed areas with low cliffs on one side and views out to sea on the other. Trow rocks beach is lovely to explore at low tide and usually quiet and peaceful most of the time. Heading south, there are pathways leading to the cliff tops where you walk on for miles, exploring other little coves and eventually ending up at Marsden grotto or, head north along the promonard where you'll eventually find a chip shop, ice-cream parlour, pubs and a fair ground. There is plenty of parking either pay in the large council car park, or free in the shut down waters edge car park or park in the bays on the coast road which are free and walk down to Trow Rocks.

Great place for a walk. Follow the coast walking path not the main road. Amazing sights you will miss if you follow the main road

Looks wonderful but I didn't get this far down the beach. I wanted to swim but honestly, even though the sand was invitingly golden, the North Sea looked daunting. So I assumed the red and yellow flag must be a warning. But no, the lifeguard told me it was safe to swim between the flags, so I did! And it was actually not cold and the sea was deliciously wavey and buoyant. And when the sun shone, the water was a lovely lightish shade of greeny turquoise. Who knew that the northeast English coast is...
