This was my third time in Ramsgate, and once again a dark cloudy sky but no rain. Ramsgate is a rather large town and has an equally large harbour. Some of the buildings along the harbour have beautiful architecture, not to mention the unusual arcades along the road that leads to the top of the steep hill, overlooking the town and the harbour. So, on that 3rd visit, I started walking toward the town centre, along the beach and then on the quays in the harbour. For some reason, and despite the rather dark clouds, I looked at the place with new eyes and consecutively found lots of things with interest. Just like this Brasserie at the end of a long Quay accessible with a car and where a few guys, apparently hyper-motivated were supervising fishing rods, up to 3 per man! Anyway, right at the end of that Quay, is located that Brasserie in a building you would think of a warship. It is grey and dull, full of aerials and looks in need of a good refurbishing. Amazingly, the Brasserie is operating but was closed that day. I would have loved to see inside... The town has all the shops you would expect for a seaside place and some interesting shops with vintage clothing and Bric-à-Brac shops. You will find galore of restaurants, cafés and street food to end up by the sea, enjoying a tasty ice-cream, that much choice there was... Back on the harbour, a life-size wooden ship, a reproduction of one of the 2 ships that went with the Santa Maria, Christopher Columbus' ship, in 1492. Don't be fooled, I know that much only because I did the model when I was a kid. Anyway, it was there, so real I could touch it... but for 10 quid, no way guys, I'll stick with pictures. Still, did you know it takes 14 men to raise the main sail? I think I have changed my mind: I do...
