Superb food in delightful surroundings and at honest prices! and worth Michelin stars.... A last minute impulse led us to join my son and his partner at the Alexandra Ristorante in Ramsgate, for our 31st December 2017 late dinner. And what a surprise was in store for us all as none of us had been there before. Our new-year's dinner turned out to be our best 2017 restaurant experience and the best Italian restaurant we have been to, over the past 30 years! What a find indeed... Although late for our 21:30 table, we were very warmly welcomed in the Alexandra Ristorante delightful and spoteless surroundings. We savoured every bite and minute we had until we left at 23:45. The setting was perfect for our New-Year's eve celebration: a homely environment, in the heart of Ramsgate harbour. The Alexandra Ristorante building is indeed unique. The tables are tastily set, in a welcoming and stylish simplicity.. Quiet music provided a pleasant background to our family get-together. The perfect Italian atmosphere oozing peaceful charm... As for the food... well as a French accomplished cook myself, I like the best and I was not disappointed... The menu offered a wide variety of options, including a good range of delicious vegeterian dishes. Our food was served with care by the owners who clearly take great delight in pleasing their guests and much pride in preparing the best of Italian traditional food. Every dish we picked was exquisitely presented, in generous portions, home-made with fresh and high-quality ingredients, and so so so tasty!!! Italian food at its best.... All dishes were very reasonably priced and our three-course New-Year's eve meals with drinks cost us just under £25 per person. Very well done John: your food is scrumptious and your prices are honest!!! A big thank you to you, family and staff for making our late New Year's eve a really unexpected treat, despite Ramsgate Harbour fireworks being cancelled due to strong winds... We left your restaurant into the wet and cold seaside air, with a warm heart and happy tummies! We will definitely be back in 2018 with family and friends to enjoy your special food, drinks and...
Read moreI was told by the husband that all their wines were suitable for vegetarians and all of them had the green logo showing this but when we sat down and ordered suddenly he wasn’t sure that the ones you could have per glass were suitable for vegetarians so I had to buy a whole bottle when I only wanted a glass. So I felt a bit tricked. He was pleasant though. The wife, who I have found rude before, wouldn’t answer me directly when I asked her were there only two vegetarian choices for the desserts of which there was a long list that didn’t have the green V logo. She confused me by saying check for yourself. I then thought she had mistakenly put a V instead of VE because the choice was so limited. She spoke with a mask on and I am hard of hearing and I couldn’t pick up everything she was saying. When I asked her if she could stand back to ge able to remove the mask just so I could hear her by reading her lips she refused and was obnoxious. I remembered then why I hadn’t been there in so long, I remembered she was a difficult woman the last couple of times I had been there. She should have just said yes, that there were only two vegetarian choices and not answered me in an ambiguous way. She also could have taken heed that clearly if desserts are bought in which they were, tgat she could have chosen more vegetarian choices and not argued with me about it. She made the evening unpleasant after it had started so well prior to entering...
Read moreWe've been here a few times and the chef is simply a maestro! This is real authentic italian food with great flavours. I had the seafood risotto that was bursting with seafood flavour and so packed with shellfish, the chef must have emptied the harbour for it! My wife had the canneloni stuffed with minced chicken in a cheese sauce, which was also delicious with a subtle herby flavour. The whole thing was washed own with a bottle of fruity white house wine, perfectly chilled. We managed a sweet (just) of Afrogato (Ice cream with whipped cream and toasted almonds and liqueur, while I had the Tiramisu. Both were quite delicious and we had coffee to finish. With a bill of under 60 pounds for the two of us, it represented very good value. It is situated right on picturesque Ramsgate Harbour. What we dont understand is why it isnt busier, becuase it always seems underused on weekdays, yet this is one of the best Italian restaurants I've visited. Try it - you wont be...
