It was a beautiful day. Warm as the sun was hazy and there was a lovely breeze. I was surprised that the beach was so pebbly and hurts to walk on. Also to play on, even for the small children. The cafe was incredibly slow with only one sandwich toaster for one slice at a time. The salad was virtually non existent. A tiny bit was added on request but certainly not enough. I have lived here for 30 years now and not seen the beach so pebbly, the cafe so ridiculously short staffed and unprepared to cater for their customers. I was very impressed to see the rental of not only deck chairs but also comfortable and adjustable sun loungers. The block of toilets next to the beach cafe was also not decently maintained. There are only 3 cubicles for the ladies and most of the children to share. There was therefore a long queue. The sinks were clean but the dryer was temperamental. The toilets themselves however were obviously not cleaned very often as one was totally disgusting and the remaining two were full of paper and could not be flushed. A very unhygienic experience and a health hazard. The harbour is absolutely beautiful both by day and night. The town has plenty of choice of varied shops. Accommodation is varied and of a high quality . The wartime tunnels are also a new experience worth exploring. I live next to king George V1 Park which was left to the people of Ramsgate by the great Jewish benefactor Sir Moses Montefiore. It is certainly the best park around. With not only an amazing playground for babies up but it also has many fields, wild areas and good areas for biking up and down slopes, or for going on a bear hunt. There is the Italianate greenhouse which serves cream teas at a price. Or there is the locals choice of Alison's cafe which serves hot, cold food, ice creams, milkshakes and better but cheaper cream teas with scones and a pot of tea. My two dogs and I live here...
Read moreRamsgate sands are next to the west pier of its sheltered harbour. Within easy reach of all the harbour attractions. At high tide there isn't much left, but Ramsgate has lovely views on both sides of the harbour from its clifftops where there is lots of free parking and open areas of grassland up to the cliff edges. The train station is quite a long way from the seafront. Due to shifting sands all around the Kent coast the sands on the quiet south side of the harbour at the western undercliff are worth a look. You can walk around the harbour to get there. Or park above them and walk down the cliff path from the western undercliff(south) whilst enjoying views of...
Read moreNot a bad beach and now better due to the pavilion reopening with Wetherspoon. Plenty of parking nearby but as the council is run by UKIP, they are expensive. The old Pleasurama site is STILL boarded up and a wasteland which is such a shame as it could compliment the beach very well if developed right. The excellent Ramsgate Tunnels are nearby as well. But that's it. UPDATE 2021: So UKIP are dead and buried (shame Farage didn't go down with them!) but the local GOV are still useless so nothing improves other than the Pleasurama site is now under development so maybe things will look...
