Read moreMy partner and I had a little weekend away to Ramsgate and Broadstairs. We planned the hotel and the travel and what we would do, but neglected to book anywhere for dinner. After walking down the harbour and being turned away from a few places, we came to A La Turka. Luckily, they'd had a few tables not turn up, so could squeeze us in. We were given a seat outside, in the shade, next to the door. It did get a little chilly, but there were fleecy blankets scattered around to keep warm. Being a sunny Saturday, it was clearly very busy and we spotted a couple of issues, mainly with the time that some people had to wait for pre-booked tables as prior bookings had run over. This led to people getting irritable with staff and crowding around the door (and inevitably right by our table). This did feel uncomfortable at times, but there was one particular male member of staff who did keep encouraging customers back towards the pavement, which helped. The service was also a little slow, but that is to be expected when a restaurant is busy, and the staff were all lovely and friendly when they came over. Aside from this, the food was absolutely incredible. It was the first time my partner has ever had Turkish food and this was a great introduction! The starters came with bread and salad and all dishes were hot, fresh, delicious and all for such great value. The drinks selection was wide. I was on antibiotics so couldn't have alcohol but the mocktails were yummy! The one thing about the menu that let this place down for me was the dessert menu, but I'm not a fan of Turkish desserts anyway so that could be on me! All in all, would highly recommend this place and would be back if in the...
Read moreAs a tourist in the area you rely on Google alot to find places to go or eat. We found ALa Turka and went for dinner. Before even having dinner we found out that they do breakfast and decided to come for breakfast as the restaurant it self is very nicely presented.
Dinner went by ok except for the fact that our server was new and didn't know our table number and had non of the other staff members help her. A few mixed up drinks orders later and our evening ended.
Although the service was not great the food was good and so we still decided to go for breakfast the following morning.
On Google they advertise as the restaurant opening at 11am for breakfast. We arrived at 11am, order was taken, our hot drinks arrived and so did 11.30am when we saw one of the chef's from the night before arrive.
This ment we had already waited half hour for our food. We was then told at that time that yea chef has just arrived and is getting the kitchen ready so food will be another 20 odd mins.
After waiting another 20mins and no food I had to go in and find the manager. I told him very calmly that if we don't get our food in 10mins we will be leaving. The manager looked at me and said very matter of factly that as you are not a local you would not know that the kitchen actually does not open till midday.
I asked why was this not on your website or why did not any of the staff members tell us this information?? He said all the locals knows so we don't need to put this on the website.
After having these words with management the food did arrive within 10mins but not as four plates of Turkish breakfast but all in one plate to share!
I don't think I will be going...
