We had the pleasure of doing a boat tour here today. It is almost like a secret,I did not know about it til a little while ago. It is a stones throw away from the Aquadrome and the meeting point is in a lovely sort of bucolic area with three rivers and a small house which is the reception/shop area for the tour. The small shop is lovely and sells local goods too. The outdoor waiting area is lovely with loads of tables and a beautiful riverside view. The boat tour is great value and lovely. It was a very peaceful and relaxing experience. The boat goes very slowly so it is very relaxed, but the 40 minutes of the boat tour goes very quickly. They do boat tours every 45 minutes here. We went at 11:00 on a Monday morning and it wasn’t busy on the tour at all so if you are planning to go at that time there is no real need to book way in advance, maybe see what the weather is like and give them a phone call if the weather is suitable. Thank you so much Chris(our driver)and to all the lovely and friendly team for making it such a wonderful start to the...
Read moreWe were travelling home from Milton Keynes to Dover, and wanted to avoid motorways. I noted in advance that this canal centre would be a good stop for coffee. We enjoy canal locations and coffee. We parked at Tesco car park, 5 mins walk away, and after buying some drink, crisps and sweets to 'legitimise' our parking, we walked the short distance to the canal. Apart from the canal centre shop and museum, there is a small food and drink outlet. Outside seating only by the edge of the canal. Five star food/health rating. We ordered two coffees, sat and watched the canal side activity. Schoolchildren being given a short ride, a poodle, obviously very excited, but under control, cyclist and runners using the canal path, and canal boats. After coffee we took a 20 minute walk along the uneven path alongside which were mostly unkempt canal barges, which in themselves were interesting to look at. The owners we spoke to were friendly, and living...
Read moreOn the hottest day of the year so far I decided to take a short trip on the canal boat and so glad I did. I happened to be the only passenger at my time of arrival, but was greeted by the friendly owner and welcomed aboard where I had the boat to myself. It was so relaxing just chugging past all the different types of canal boat moored alongside, plus of course admiring the scenery. The shop itself is worth a visit too with a great selection of gifts and souvenirs including fridge magnets of “The Pride of Batchworth. “
Well recommended and thanks for a...
