Mangal Express — Restaurant in Three Rivers

This used to be a go to favourite with consistent quality and service. Apparently that's no longer the case.

Ordered 2x mixed grill, a combination shish lamb & chicken and hummus & haydari.

While the combination kebab was fine, the two mixed grills fell far below expectations.

Told when I ordered on the phone that lamb doner was all gone so would be given extra chicken doner to compensate. No problems.

Get to the restaurant to collect and am told the two mixed grills are ready but just waiting for the combination. Go to pay and everything seems fine.

Only when we get home is it apparent that we're missing nearly half of each mixed grill!

So much for "I'll give you extra chicken doner", we get about 10g of burnt scraps from the bottom of the grill in each and of course no lamb. Even the rice was about half as much as I've seen in the past.

Really disappointed with this. Yes I get that it was 2 hours before close and things might be running low, but to be told we would get extra of something to make up for a missing item only to then be given basically nothing which in itself was hardly edible is just not acceptable.

At a minimum we could have been told that both chicken and lamb doner had run out and had a bit of money off but even this wasn't offered.

Used to love this place, but sadly disappointed yesterday. I’ve always been a big fan of their food and used to enjoy watching them prepare my order in person. However, due to the heat, I decided to call in the order instead. Unfortunately, the person who answered the phone was very difficult to understand and abruptly hung up on me — not the service I expected.

I still went ahead and placed the order, and sent my daughter to collect it. She was told to wait an extra 10 minutes, even though the food was apparently already ready. By the time she got home, the food was completely cold.

We paid £30, so we decided to give it a chance — but honestly, it was a real letdown. The meat was undercooked (almost raw!) and the grilled tomatoes were crunchy and barely touched the grill. In this hot weather, serving raw meat isn’t just unappetizing — it’s unsafe.

It’s disappointing to see the quality drop like this. I hope the team takes this seriously and brings the standard back to what...

Visited in Feb 2025: First time visit to ME in Rickmansworth after it was recommended and we were not disappointed with the food. I do believe that this is the better Turkish option to where we live and considering there are some very good options.

Despite the lack of seating - which was only stool seating on a counter top. It was not clear to see if proper seating was available before we arrived. However, the quality and taste of the food overshadowed the comfort experience - however be warned that this is more of a takeaway and quick dine spot.

We ordered a Mixed Kebab and Chicken Shish wrap. Both were generous in size and the taste was delicious and succulent. Nothing beats having it fresh there and then. The Turkish people do know how to feed their patrons. The service was polite and friendly.
