๐Ÿ›๏ธ The Wellingborough Museum offers a unique and intriguing experience that takes you back to the history of Wellingborough. Housed in a converted community pool known as 'Dulley's Baths,' the museum maintains some of its original charms, creating an interesting juxtaposition between the past and the present. Initially built in 1892 by local brewer David Dulley as a swimming pool, the building has undergone several transformations throughout its history. ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ Today, visitors to the museum can explore a range of exhibits spread across two main gallery areas. The downstairs gallery delves into early history, covering periods such as the Iron Age, Roman Britain, the Middle Ages, and Victorian times, along with the impact of World War I. The upstairs gallery focuses on the 20th century, offering a glimpse into the past with a recreated 1940s living room and kitchen. Another highlight is a recreation of a haberdashery shop from the era, providing a nostalgic experience for visitors. ๐ŸŽน One of the standout features of the Wellingborough Museum is the interactive nature of the exhibits. Visitors can enjoy playing the 1920s pianola and try their hand at producing a tune. Additionally, the museum invites guests to engage with the functioning 1950s seaside arcade machines, which operate using pre-decimal coins. These activities further enhance the sense of stepping into the past, creating a delightful and immersive experience. ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ”ฎ ๐Ÿ‘ป While some attractions, like the haunted hotel arcade, may not meet initial expectations, as it turns out to be a brief 15-second puppet show, other aspects of the museum make up for it. The occasional quirks and surprises add to the overall charm of the museum, reminding visitors of the wonders that history can hold. ๐ŸŽญ ๐Ÿ“š The museum also offers adult education classes upstairs, and the presence of an elevator ensures accessibility for all visitors. The excellent lighting throughout the museum creates a pleasant and inviting atmosphere, enhancing the overall experience. ๐Ÿ’ก ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ It's worth noting that the collection at the Wellingborough Museum may seem eclectic, with different pieces that feel like a mix. However, despite this variety, the museum maintains a clean and well-maintained environment, ensuring a pleasant visit. ๐Ÿงน โฐ The Wellingborough Museum is open to the public with the following hours: Monday: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Thursday: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Friday: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Saturday: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Sunday: CLOSED ๐Ÿ“œ In summary, the Wellingborough Museum offers a unique journey into the town's history. From its converted community pool setting to the functioning arcade machines and the occasional quirks in the exhibits, it provides an intriguing blend of the past and the present. While some attractions may not fully meet expectations, the museum's cleanliness, accessibility, and overall charm make it a worthwhile visit for those interested in exploring the rich history of Wellingborough. ๐Ÿ›๏ธโœจ

Went to the Wellingborough Bus Festival last Saturday on the 14th Aug 2021 and wow! Such a little place can make you aware what went on decades well before smart phones and even TV sets the size of modern smart tablets! A very small establishment but shows a tremendous amount of local and various things with the town history! Definitely recommend for some history buffs!

Very good! It's quite small, but it's worth a visit. The cafe is very well priced (Cornetto ice creams for 75p, other places charge ยฃ2.50!). The gift shop has a decent variety of stock, with good pricing. The bus open day was great, my children loved riding on the double decker buses!

If you want to learn about the history of Wellingborough then don't come here. This is the worst laid out and curated museum I have ever seen. The displays appear to every possible artifact they could find laid out with no particular pattern discernable. The main exhibition room has various displays of generic rooms in no particular order. Including one that is a doctors surgery but had nothing to tell you what date it was a certificate from 1972. This floor was also cramped and cluttered, I would be reluctant to try going in with a wheelchair or pushchair. Upstairs they have a model railway and various displays showing aspects of life. Mainly just 'rooms' with vaguely categorised items clustered together. I would say this is more viewable archive than a properly organised museum display. The shop fails to have ANY souvenirs of the museum or the town. Instead it is filled with generic gift shop tat. However it does earn two stars for two reasons. Firstly it is a volunteer run museum and so I say well done to them for achieving anything and I could not fault their customer service. Secondly it is FREE so I must admit it is...

The most disorganised, cluttered, and badly curated museum I've ever seen. Many displays are either unlit (torch required), or out of reach (kneepads required). There is no real sense of organisation or storytelling, for the museum as a whole. There's a wide range of artifacts, from a broad range of timescales; but most have no local significance. This museum simply doesn't know whether it's there to tell the story of Wellingborough's importance, especially its position in the industrial history of the UK - or just to give a broader overview of the UK's material culture. As a result, it does neither of these things competently. I'm not saying it's not interesting, or worth a visit - but it's much more notable for being a mess than for being a good opportunity to learn...
