Niwan Restaurant — Restaurant in England

The food was simply stunning, and the service was pretty great too. We were welcomed in, and offered a choice of 2 tables, which was a nice touch. After being seated we were then given a drinks list to view and order from. After ordering the drinks we were presented with a delicious and giant puffball bread, served with what I can only guess was a form of Sumac onions, I say "guess" because the host wasn't giving away any secrets to me on this visit, however he promised to enlighten me on my return visit. Then came the main course, where every meal was cooked perfectly, and as silly as it sounds so was the rice. This was my first time having Cheesy Lamb Kas, and I will thoroughly and highly recommend it, both the guys I was with shared the same thoughts about their own meals the Mixed Grill and Cheesy Chicken Saute. I visited Niwan Restaurant for my birthday and ordered the Gold Platter for 2 people, clearly priced at £70 on the menu.

The food was delicious and generous, and the staff were very friendly — I truly appreciated that part of the experience.

However, we were charged £140 (2 x £70), even though we received only one platter and were just 2 adults with 2 children (one being a baby).

We had to call and send proof (receipt and menu screenshot), after which we were told to come back for a £70 refund.

While I’m thankful the issue was resolved, I left with a bitter feeling that this wasn’t just a simple mistake, but rather an attempt to overcharge us — which was very disappointing on a special day.

I recommend the food, but I strongly advise customers to double-check their bill...

Been a frequent visitor over the years, left a 5 star review 3 years ago. Things have changed. Food, excellent, didn't appreciate the member of staff sat at the grill playing videos full blast on their phone, louder than the piped music, very disrespectful. Also don't pay cash. Left £60 in the recipt wallet for a £48 meal, always leave a tip, but expected to be offered my change back, but no, no change given, £12 pocketed. Rather than have an argument I left and I just won't return. Shame, I considered it one of the best restaurants in wellingborough.
