A Perfect Meal and Anniversary Celebration at Speer’s!
When we started looking for the perfect spot to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary, we wanted more than just a great meal—we wanted an experience we’d remember long after the evening was over. We found exactly that at Spears Steakhouse!
From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel celebrated. Thanks to the special note we left on our reservation, we were seated in a cozy corner booth beautifully decorated with fresh roses in a vase, tabletop rose petals, and even a thoughtful anniversary card. It was such a personal touch and set the tone for an amazing evening.
Our server, Marjorie, was warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable. She congratulated us, helped guide us through the menu, and shared her favorite recommendations. Her attention to the all the details made the night feel effortless & special for us.
We started with cocktails—a crisp Mojito for the Mrs., and a perfectly balanced Speer’s Old Fashioned made with Old Forester bourbon with a couple of cherries for myself, before diving into a dozen East Coast Raw Oysters. They were fresh, briny, and delicious, especially paired with the house-made red chimichurri sauce (our new favorite!). A basket of warm bread with a plate of seasoned olive oil for dipping, rounded out the start of our meal.
For dinner, my wife chose the Chilean Sea Bass special with jasmine rice and broccolini. *She also added two Jumbo Shrimp. She enjoyed every bite, and I can attest that her meal was excellent too. I went with the 28-Day, Dry Aged, Prime Ribeye, cooked medium-rare to perfection. It was tender, flavorful, well seasoned, and even the charcoal charred edge fat was too good to leave behind.
We added two sides—creamed spinach and rosemary fries. The Rosemary French Fries deserve a special mention: hot, crispy, seasoned just right, and honestly some of the best we’ve ever had. They were so good we didn’t leave a single one behind! For most restaurants the French Fries are an afterthought, but Speer’s were one of the stars of our meal.
Dessert was the sweetest ending to a perfect night. My wife enjoyed a warm apple cake with vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle, while I had a rich chocolate mousse topped with a fresh raspberry. Both were wonderful, and to our delight, the mousse was compliments of the restaurant in honor of our anniversary. The cappuccino that arrived with a dessert, was served with “41 ♥” drawn into the foam—such a thoughtful detail from the GM herself.
The only small note of the evening was the creamed spinach being a touch salty, but it was still tasty and enjoyed. Everything else exceeded our expectations.
What truly stood out was the hospitality. Marjorie was attentive and excellent, and the GM, Lexi personally stopped by to check in and wish us yet again a happy anniversary wish. Her genuine care and pride in the restaurant and her staff definitely shined through during our conversation with her

Read moreNot thrilled. Just a plain old mehhhhhhh. I was really looking forward to trying out Cranberry’s newest steakhouse, with such high hopes from sneak peeks at the menu. The atmosphere feels very modern yet inviting - great start! Unfortunately, we were met with less than fully trained waitstaff who bumbled their way through the menu and questions about the dishes.
As the food came, it was just dropped down wherever on the table, minimal regard for placement or serving utensils for appetizers and shared sides. Also most of the food was very bland. To start, the salmon tartare was overly salted and had a not-so-fresh fishy flavor. And the steak tartare was barely flavored.
Continuing onto the middle courses, the biscuits were pretty good and flaky, and the spinach salad was excellent, though slightly marred by spinach leaves that should have been pre-cut due to their massive size. When the main courses arrived, the “medium rare” lamb was still completely unheated in the middle, which was remedied by the staff. And the filet was accompanied by an excessive amount of juices.
Then the sides…the creamed spinach was more like some wilted leaves of spinach in a water bath, we couldn’t even stomach more than a bite. This is an absolute DO NOT order. And the Mac and cheese (with the added pricey lobster) was flavorless and dry. No seasoning and almost no sauce. At least the rosemary fries were splendid, as was the aioli that came with them.
Forgot to mention. The drinks. One of the cocktails was so sweet that it was undrinkable. When returned to remake, the drink that was brought out was just the same drink in a bigger glass with some soda water.
The entire waitstaff was so discombobulated. It felt like they just opened without doing any proper training. And when we tried to address certain things we were either ignored or met with dismissiveness. Even from the manager at the end when we brought up the poor experience.
Would not recommend that anyone waste $300 or...
Read moreHonestly, I’m surprised this place is still in business, or hasn’t addressed the one to three star issues that are legitimate. We absolutely love the two sister restaurants that we frequent. Our whole experience was so awkward and just overall bad. We were celebrating our anniversary, and made the reservation through open table. So when we get there, the host awkwardly goes behind the host station, and brings out this little vase with a half wilted rose. Ok. So he walks us to this table, this extra LARGE, big round table that could fit 6 people. My bad for not immediately speaking up, and asking for a more private table. Moving on, we had 2 servers helping us. We weren’t sure if one was in training, so we just went with it. So as we are waiting for our drinks ( side note, their tap water is TRULY unfiltered tap water and disgusting- at least put a simple filter on, which most places do. If you want to showcase your food flavors, don’t serve unfiltered water!), this server is standing at some table that is situated right NEXT to our table. She’s shuffling what looks like receipts or something. Mind you, she is facing us DIRECTLY, and can hear every word we are saying! I gently tried to hint that we could talk when she leaves, but she lingered and lingered! Finally she leaves, our food arrives. Food was underwhelming to say the least. Steak was not seasoned. Mushrooms were super salty. We expected the high prices, but the food and experience was nowhere near the price point. Go to the sister restaurants (Breakneck and Kaufman tavern as shown on Speers website) or Firebirds, and you will get a MUCH...
