Akron ArtWorks — Attraction in Akron

I had my sons birthday party here yesterday and it was awesome! He wanted an art themed party and this was came up in my search. I'd never been here and I live 40 minutes away so I was a little nervous about how it would work out but it was great. This was also his first party I did not have at our home and didn't have full control of. I got an email a few days before telling me what to expect and confirming my plans for the party part. We were able go bring in food and decorations. It was a surprise for my son and everyone was awesome about being discreet while planning it.

The staff was so awesome! I had 7 kids between the ages of 4 and 9 and Ashley was able to keep them all organized and on task. She even knew their names after a few minutes, which was so helpful! Since we live so far all the parents stayed, but Ashley had such a great handle on things the parents could enjoy the party too.

They did the splatter painting part first. Ashley explained what to do to the kids, helped them pick their colors, and got them all set up and allowed them to be creative. The paintings all turned out so cool. I can't wait to get my sons big canvas back! He had his friends all take turns helping him splatter his canvas too.

Then they moved to rock painting. How they got 7 young kids to switch from active splatter painting to sitting quietly painting rocks at a table is beyond me. The guy who helped here (I think his name was Paulie? I'm so bad with names sorry!) showed the kids what to do and helped them dry their rocks with a blow dryer so we could take them home. Again, just allowing them to all be so creative and not telling anyone what to do. I feel like being able to direct children without controlling them or even accidentally guiding them is an underrated skill. All the rocks were different snd creative!

When we moved to the party part they got everyone cleaned up and organized their projects while the kids ate. We never felt rushed, which I feel happens most places when you go to kids parties. They let us take our time and enjoy the party, and we still left on time. I was nervous there wouldn't be enough time to eat after the art part, but it was perfect.

My son had so much fun at his party and all of his friends are begging to have their birthdays there as well. And all us moms want to come back for adults night! I remember having a spin art t-shirt making party when I was young and it brought back those memories for me. My child recently completed the Art of Dungeons & Dragons class. He had a good time and liked the instructor, but I feel the value for the cost just wasn’t there. I paid $165 for the class and the activities were 3 paper/marker maps (with very minimal technique instruction) raw edge quilters cotton dice bags, and canvas dungeon master screens. Based on the class description and the cost I anticipated more.

My nephew participated in the clay class at the same time and that looked like it was absolutely worth the cost and his instructor...
