As an Alaskan, I'm used to camping in tents and sleeping on air mattresses. But due to unforseen circumstances, my group (2 adults, 2 kids, and a dog) found ourself in need of lodging. We found a cabin and called the folks to see if we could reserve it. It was a little late, but they were super awesome and even met us to show us the place and get us checked in and situated. 5/5 rating if you don't have a dog with you. The reason I'm giving it a 4/5 is that even though they allow dogs on the property (leashed), they don't have the option to pay a pet deposit and take your dog into the cabin. My only option would have been to leave my pup in the car all night. I ended up leaving her with a friend for the night, but I recognize not everyone with a dog will have that option. The cabin we got was a bit on the smaller side, and probably better for 2 people, but that's what was left. That being said, the cabin was very cozy and warm, super comfortable (and clean) with a memory foam queen mattress in the loft and a Tempurpedic pullout couch/bed. It also had shower, full kitchen (including everything you needed to make pancakes!), heat, wifi and satellite TV, and a fan. The kids really loved it. Plus the property is absolutley gorgeous. Unfortunately we didn't really get to enjoy the full extent of the property but we will definitely be returning, just without the dog. I highly recommend this place if you are visiting Seward and want a cozy and quiet retreat. Note: Call and book directly with them as they offer competitive rates.

We loved our stay at box canyons cabins. We reserved the moose and fisherman cabin. Both worked very well for our needs. The moose cabin is on the lower level of the largest cabin, which can be annoying if the occupants are loud above you (which ours were a couple nights with their dog). Laundry facilities are available. You’ll need detergent and it’s 2.50 for a wash and $3.00 for a dry. If you need quarters, you can get some at the Iditarod gift center. They do have WiFi, which is starlink connected, so when there’s satellite it’s fast. We saw a moose and her calf twice during our five night stay.

We stayed in the Wolf Cabin. It was very comfortable with two separate bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a living room, and a bathroom. There are freestanding heaters in every room. There were plenty of amenities available - more than enough towels, lots of coat hooks (good for the wet weather), a coffee machine with coffee grounds to make your own, and even some oatmeal packets. The common grounds are beautiful with two fire pits and a pond. I did not check out the laundry, but it is available. The wifi was very spotty and poor. It was better not to use the wifi.

I was a guest here with my family. This is a lovely 2 bedroom cabin. But there are several things missing which would have made the stay much better. The good things are: covered porch with Adirondack chairs, lovely grounds, cable tv worked well, lots of towels in bathroom. |Here are the items that detracted from the cabin:|Welcome/instruction book is seriously outdated and useless.|Large heater broken, no sign to indicate this-spent an hour or three trying to turn it on. Electric heaters in LR, and 2 BRs although the 2nd BR heater was hidden in closet. Called for another heater and was told the large heater was broken and that is why there are electric heaters. Like we would know that??? Person brought a heater with a broken wheel which had to be just right to stay upright. |Sign over gas stove/oven said we had to keep the bedroom doors open because the smoke detectors would go off and bother everyone including people upstairs. Uhh….there were no smoke detectors in cabin-all had been removed. Not good.|Kitchen could use a strainer for pasta, otherwise adequately stocked for cookware & knives & flatware. And if you use the microwave & toaster at same time, the fuse will blow-fuse boxes is in 2nd bedroom by the way. |One working gas grill for entire cabins -we were the furthest and pretty sure food would have turned cold by the time it was walked back to cabin.|Beware there are people renting (not the owners of the place)on 2nd floor above you who are fairly noisy at night walking to bathroom, flushing, etc.|If they get the big items (heaters, smoke detectors, CO) fixed it would be a lovely...
