We really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately, did not. The atmosphere is fun - but that’s about all it had going for it. Don’t go there as a party of two and expect to sit at a table. We went for our 25th anniversary dinner and they asked if we wanted to sit at the bar or a table. We said table, please, and were given a buzzer. As we walked away, another employee came up and said we could sit at the bar right now! We said no, we’d wait. We were the first ones in the waiting area (we went early.) As we waited, it filled up completely. And emptied. And filled up again. Our buzzer finally went off as we were just about to leave and go elsewhere. They proceeded to direct us to seats at the bar! We said no, we’d prefer a table, special occasion and all. (Normally the bar would be fine.) We waited and watched several more parties come in and get seated. We finally got a table and almost choked on the dry cornbread. The butter saved it. They were out of baked potatoes and the only other side we wanted was a fairly pricey up charge. The seafood we got was unfortunately dry, chewy and overcooked, as well. Definitely not a place I’d recommend. (Also not the cheapest pound in town, as advertised. We had a more affordable option at a different restaurant in Seward the evening prior and the food and service was amazing there!) The Salmon Bake was entirely too expensive for the service and quality we received. Funny - reading reviews after we ate there, I saw many other parties of 2 state that they had similar experiences… that they almost refuse to sit a two-top anywhere...
Read moreThe old adage “you only get one chance to make a first “ applies here. While cliche as that sounds, had it not been for our experience with the hostess, this place would have received 5 stars. The waitress was great and the food was good, but the hostess made us feel unwelcomed & a burden from the moment we asked for a table for 2. She literally looked around (there were no less than 3 empty tables in view and certainly more out of our initial view), but she sighed a heavy sigh and asked if we didn’t mind just sitting at the bar. I informed her that while I didn’t necessarily mind sitting at the bar it didn’t seem appropriate for my underaged son to do so (not to mention illegal and a huge liquor license liability for the restaurant). She sighed again, mumbled something under her breathe that I didn’t catch, and with what seemed like reluctance took us to a small table for two in the back corner of the restaurant. You’d think we must’ve looked like rugrats or smelled bad by her demeanor but I swear we didn’t!
Maybe this is the place for locals and they just don’t like travelers?? I don’t know, but I know that initial experience tarnished the rest of the meal there as after that it’s hard to feel welcome. Gosh, maybe we should’ve just sat at the bar…after all, it’s not my job as the consumer to watch your back and protect your license…asking if we were both over 21 was the hostess’ job before choosing a placement for us. Besides that, while my son is tall, he literally looks like he is 12 in the face! Just...
Read moreThe sign on the outside says lousy food and cheap beer, its an apt description for this place.
We went there for dinner today and they were out of Salmon(so maybe they need a name change too :) ), note that the area is not out of salmon but they just choose to not restock as its easier that way. Also they charge a markup on the halibut which is the replacement.
We had to wait around an hour to get our table at 6pm which should tell you that this place is amazingly popular. The food is however nothing to write home about.
With an average entree cost of around $30 one would expect spectacular food with the best flavors, instead one is treated to bland, insipid fare which you wouldn't serve to your in-laws.
We ordered the Gulf Captain's platter(note they added a $3 surcharge since they were out of salmon), the halibut burger and the clam chowder.
The clam chowder was ok, the platter had mostly fried fish with a tiny halibut filet($39), the sandwich had a decent chunk of halibut for a lot cheaper.
From a taste point of view, the kitchen seemed to have a shortage of salt and any other seasoning. The sandwich didn't even have the bread grilled on both sides and had raw onions. The bread also tasted mostly raw.
Overall one of the most expensive and worst meals i have had...
