While this store is a great addition to increase the diversity of food ingredients available in our community, this Hispanic store also brings some common and not graceful practices from abroad. That explains most of people's complaints and low rating.
Indeed there are staples that you only can find in Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela, as example, but sometimes (not all cases) they are priced considerably high compared with other stores such as Kroger (nearby), which is also beating to address more foreign customers. I may suggest them to translate price increase to other highly demanded goods not available in supermarkets if they want a loyal customer base to support them. I wouldn't be bad to have to spend some money in having a webpage and promote items. This store is located in a relatively wealthy neighborhood and could benefit a lot to have more information online about what they are selling.
I've found expired or near to expire food on shelves. I understand there might be not such a system or staff that could be assigned to this duty without crushing margins for keeping this store in blue... but, please do something. It's far from nice shopping when you have to continuously checking labels. Maybe it's a good idea to have clearance sales. I bet many like me would love to prepare food with your discounted merchandise instead of throwing that to garbage.
Service is not the kindness you can find around. I get there're some language barriers but that doesn't deprive you to make an effort to smile and orientate people through your store. At the end "It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own interest." (A. Smith). It should be the interest of this store to gather more people to purchase, not to try to screw their own...
