my daughter was taken into this emergency room following a major vehicle accident. I arrived at the hospital about 30 minutes after she did as I had a 45 minute drive. They gave her nothing for shock, they did not cover her in a blanket to keep her warm, they gave her Toradol which has been discontinued, including the generic, I never once saw the doctor. They did x-rays and CT scans of her head neck chest and abdomen as well as her arm and not once did the doctor come in to reassure us of their findings. Only the nurse came. When my daughterâs pain became too excruciating I asked the nurse for pain meds, it took almost 20 minutes and rather than give her an actual pain medication she only gave her the Toradol anti-inflammatory. The hospital staff was rude, unprofessional, and the emergency room itself is very unsanitary. There were biohazard bags full of dirty laundry Lining the hallways. At one point they left a bed with dirty linens sitting in the hallway outside my daughterâs room, across from a gentleman who had an open wound where he had just had a large cyst lanced on his face. He was an elderly gentleman and only his wife was with him an hour earlier he had asked them for pain medication, which he never received. Before draining the cyst the nurse gave him lidocaine but did not allow time for the lidocaine to take affect. She hurt him so badly that he had to make her stop after about 10 minutes of draining. I approached them and held the manâs hand and instructed him to breathe As a woman does when giving birth. The nurse asked me if I was family, I told her no Iâm just another nurse Iâm here with my daughter, to which she responded âyou have to get out of here you cannot be here.â She finally lanced the cyst but did nothing to irrigate the wound and they gave him nothing but Toradol for pain medication. Toradol being a very powerful NSAID, should never be given when thereâs severe bleeding. I went to the nurses station at one point and asked them to remove all of the soiled linen bags and the linens off of the bed and clean the bed in the hallway. It took about a half an hour before the bed was cleaned and the cleaning lady Flopped the sheets all around spreading germs through the air with no concern for what she was doing. An hour later a young gentleman came to empty the biohazard soiled linen bags but instead of taking them around the corner to the linen room he simply pulled the bag up out of the framing and shook it Down enough to tie it spread spreading germs again all throughout the hallways among the patients. Even upon discharge my daughter was given nothing for pain, she was told to take ibuprofen which cannot be taken within at least 30 hours of a Toradol injection, because it can cause intestinal bleeding and tearing of the upper and lower intestine. I found this hospital staff to be extremely unprofessional, While Hannah my daughterâs nurse was friendly enough she was not competent. And we never saw the doctor again before we left the hospital. My daughter saw him when she first arrived long enough for him to order an x-ray and do a quick exam on her. After that we never saw him again. My daughter arrived at the hospital at 8:40 PM I arrived at 9:10 PM and we didnât leave the hospital until 1:30 AM. Upon going to the nurses station all they were doing was standing around talking laughing playing on their phones and chitchatting amongst themselves. One was sitting in a computer looked like she was playing a video game. If I could I would give this hospital rating a zero. And I will be contacting the head of the ER department first thing Monday morning. I literally watched many patients sit there for three and four hours and never see a doctor. Itâs the most disgraceful display of medical care I have ever witnessed in the...
Read morewhatever you do, absolutely avoid this hospital at all cost. make the trip to UAB or GA. my grandmother went in on a thursday morning, she was diagnosed a few weeks before with lung cancer, went in on thursday with stroke symptoms they wanted to do a xray..XRAY. i arrived from texas on friday night and she had been laying in urine, soaked diaper. i went and told nurses she needed a clean bed and a bath, the very unprofessional CNA changed her bed, left her diaper soaked and didnât clean her up. the cna notated she gave her a full bath which never happened as me my husband and children were there and i stayed with her the entire time. next day same thing, we were there from early morning not one nurse, cna anyone came in to change her, check her or anything. i spoke to the nurse about when she would get a bath because this was day 3 of no bath. 15 minutes after i spoke to the nurse about when she would have a bath that she has been laying in urine she had security make me my husband and my children leave, as we were leaving she called me a cry baby and laughed in our face in front of my children while the security guard on duty followed us degrading us and laughing along with her. the next day i spoke to the patient advocate who did absolutely nothing to solve the issues, she told us to come back and see my grandmother. We went back this is now monday. and the same nurse was there, again we were sitting talking to my grandmother and my kids were doing school work on their tablet, 4 nurses came in and yet again told us we had to leave. they moved my grandmother to a larger room earlier that day for us all to have more room so we could spend time with her before we go back to texas because this will be the last time we will be able to see her. the nurse on the 9th floor brought in blankets for us, a recliner all we needed just for the nurse who got but hurt because i let her know she wasnt doing her job, to make us leave the minute her shift starts. i really hope these people sleep well at night knowing my kids are absolutely heartbroken and have done nothing but cry because everytime we go to see her if this particular nurse and her supervisor is there we are made to leave. i will NEVER EVER recommend this hospital to anyone. and from the looks of the previous reviews, im not the only one with issues from these people. since higher up people wont do anything about the elderly abuse, and mental abuse to family members and nurses calling family members names especially in front of children and security guardâs belittling family members, ill go higher up to make sure no one elseâs family gets treated how mine has been. i dont see how this hospital is...
Read moreMy dad came in to the ER by ambulance on the 8th of April, 2023, just days after shoulder replacement surgery, and to be honest, the entire emergency department needs a major renovation and expansion. The waiting area was nicely renovated a few years ago, but the treatment areas are disaster. While my dad was there, two nurses (not tending to my dad) quit their job on the spot, and another left because she had an emergency. Also, my mom and I were in a (very small) treatment cubicle, and when an EKG technician came into the cubicle, she told us to step out of the cubicle (due to them being small) and her attitude about it really sucked (I donât remember her name, though). Yes, I understand it is a safety issue, due to the size of the treatment area, but this couldâve been a lot better. Earlier, after a few CAT scans and labs, we did find out that my dad had pulmonary embolism (he had it 11 years ago, and was taking blood thinners for that), and that he would have to be admitted. But, it took a WHOLE 13 AND A HALF FREAKINâ HOURS to get a room for my dad. He was admitted to Post-Op ICU at FIVE FREAKINâ OâCLOCK IN THE MORNING THE NEXT FREAKINâ DAY, and to be clear, this is another area that needs to be modernized. In fact, all the nursing units in the old part of the hospital are COMPLETELY OUTDATED! Some parts were recently updated (especially the waiting areas), but there is still some progress to be made, and it is just too damn slow! My hope is that the Emergency Department can be modernized and expanded to include a much larger treatment area that would include larger treatment rooms (not tiny cubicles) that could accommodate four people (patient, two visitors, and staff), and provide a better admitting process if needed for the patient. In whole, this hospital could do better. I was prepared to send my dad to Birmingham, but he got out okay. We did have three nice nurses taking care of my dad (Braden from the ER, and Jay and Merry from the PICU), though. Iâll give this hospital...
